2004 Vw Jetta Wagon Tdi 5 Speed Stick Black/black Leather One Owner, No Accident on 2040-cars

I bought this car new and took delivery 12/28/2003.  It has been a wonderful car and now I want to buy a new VW diesel.  This car has shiny  Black paint with Black leatherette interior.  It has a great Turbo Diesel engine with a 5 speed stick shift.  It has great acceleration and is fun to drive, yet it is a quiet diesel.

I have driven this car 157,500 miles (approximately) at an average of 43 mpg which equals 9 cents/mile at $3.90 per gallon.  On longer trips it has gotten near 50 mpg!

This car is so good that I replaced the front emblem with a Mercedes emblem many years ago.  It also is lowered 2" with a H&R lowering kit that was professionally installed.

In dash Navigation was also installed using VDO Dayton Navigation that works off CDs (see photos).  This was available in Germany and I bought a USA version from the German supplier VDO Dayton and had it installed.  The professional installer did not connect the steering wheel controls to this radio but I am told that if I take it back in, they can make them work.

Disc Brakes all around, Michelin Tires with plenty of tread left, Moonroof, 200 watt stereo/CD player are also standard in this GLS model and are working good.  It has heated seats and mirrors but the drivers bottom quit working some time ago and VW wanted $500 to fix it so I get along without it.  Drivers back and passenger bottom and back still work as do the mirrors.

Mobile 1 or an equal synthetic oil have been used since new allowing 10,000 miles between oil changes.  Currently the car runs great and uses no extra oil.

This car has never been smoked in, has never had a collision, and has had only one driver the majority of the time (I am now 75 years).  Once in awhile my wife drove it.

$300.00 must be paid by winning bidder within 24 hours of the auction ending via PayPal.  The balance must be paid in cash, or other cash type payment method. The title is clear with no liens.

Two sets of 17" ASA aluminum wheels are available for $700 for Winter set with Bridgestone Blizzacks with years of tread left and $500 for Summer set with Bridgestone Summer Tires that have little tread left.  These will be sold in separate auctions.  I ran these wheels most of the time on this car and just replaced them with the original 15" Michelin tires and stock VW aluminum wheels.

Look at our other auctions for slide rules, books, car parts, Coca Cola trays and other things that a retired Mechanical Engineer is parting with.  I have 2 MG Midgets and lots of parts for them.  Tell me what you need and if I have it, I will run an ebay auction with the part.

Added 7/17/2014

This car is For Sale locally and if it sells here for more than the auction price, then the auction will be cancelled.  So bid and lets get it sold on eBay!

Timing belt has been changed twice, once at about 80,000 miles but more recently 4/12/2011 134,405 miles when the water pump quit.  During that service at Maple Hill VW in Kalamazoo, MI they also installed new tensioner, idler, water pump, glow plugs, and a new battery.

6/17/2011 136,969 miles a local garage replaced the rear brake caliper pads with ceramic and installed new rear rotors.

12/3/2012 150,031 miles Maple Hill VW replaced the rear hatch emblem and switch because it would not work off the key fob.

8/3/2013 150,969 miles local brake shop replaced the front brake pads and a cliper frame bracket plus lube, oil, filter with synthetic oil.

Car was lowered with H&R kit 12/7/2007 90,195 miles.  All 4 wheels were realigned.  Tires seem to wear normally.  New clutch and flywheel was installed at this time.

Within last 2 months, I had a local body shop remove rust bubbles from lip of left front fender and rear hatch, they could find nothing anywhere else.  Not bad for a 10+ year old car but it is a VW!

Oil, filter and lube were done again about 1 week ago even though the 10,000 miles had not passed.

You might notice above that, if the miles on the invoices are all correct, there are times when I haven't driven this car much.  I have 7 cars, 3 are diesels and these are my drivers, one is a Mercedes with AWD and I use it more in the Winter.  I have 4 older collector cars 1929 Ford, 1957 Cadillac, 1970 MG Midget and 1975 MG Midget.

Volkswagen lays off 500 Chattanooga workers

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

The redesigned Volkswagen Passat has been a decent seller since its debut in 2011, but sales have apparently dropped off enough that the automaker is trimming some of the employees from its Chattanooga, TN assembly plant. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen will be cutting shifts and laying off 500 contracted workers in response to slowing sales.
Currently, the plant has three teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, but starting May 13, this will be reduced down to two teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday. This will be done to reduce dealer inventory (the article says that VW dealers, on average, have a 97-day supply of Passats) and production capacity (currently running at an annual pace of 170,000 units, which is more than the 150,000 annual units the plant was planned to produce).
This, of course, isn't saying that the Passat has been a failure since VW added 200 full-time employees to the plant in February 2012 to keep up with increased demand. The AN article says that automakers frequently overstaff plants during the launch of a new product - or in this case, a new product and a new plant - but eventually reduce the workers as things run smoother and more efficiently.

GM outsold VW globaly in first quarter, Toyota reports numbers next week

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

General Motors released its first quarter sales figures this week, reporting that it sold 2.36 million cars and trucks worldwide. That figure represents an increase of 3.6 percent when compared to the same period last year. GM's growth was attributed to many factors, including global Cadillac sales that were up 26 percent and Chevrolet posting a one percent increase over last year (this marked Chevy's tenth straight year of record global sales).
Volkswagen came in just behind GM, as the German automaker reported global sales from January through March at 2.27 million vehicles, an increase of five percent when compared to last year. While that number was strong, VW is cautioning that markets outside China and the US, such as those in Europe, are becoming a challenge as economies falter.
Yet to report sales is Toyota, current holder of the global world sales crown (the Japanese company sold 9.75 million cars last year, against 9.29 million sold by GM and 9.1 million vehicles sold by VW). Even though GM and Toyota both say they don't care who sells the most units, it is unquestionably a strong bragging point and sales equate to revenue. That said, Toyota will report its first quarter numbers next week.

Porsche 911 with VW turbodiesel prepares for LeMons assault

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

LeMons racing is a wonderful example that setting limits can actually breed creativity. The series mandates that all entries must cost $500, not counting safety equipment, and that cap forces teams to be ingenious in how they build a racecar. Take for example this diesel-powered Porsche 911, which its creators have dubbed Ferkel the Nein-11, that will be racing in the Sears Pointless race this weekend in Sonoma, California.
This Frankenstein combines a 911 chassis that was originally bought just for its European powertrain and a Volkswagen TDI diesel engine mounted in the rear. After deciding the shell could still be of some use, the team decided to go racing. "We began brainstorming what replacement drivetrain to use for maximum offense and there was really only one answer: a diesel," said Philipp von Weitershausen, one of the team captains, to Jalopnik. They bought a 1998 Jetta TDI on the cheap and started figuring out a way to hack the engine into the bay. To pay respect to the donor, the VW's trunk was highly modified (and drilled) and grafted onto the back of Ferkel.
This team isn't a newcomer to LeMons. Its last car was a classic VW Beetle with a Subaru engine and dual controls, named Ferdinand the Bug, which could be driven from the left or right side. It's quite a sight.
