My history is a little sketchy.  I was purchased in 1994 from a gentlemen who gave me up for his new wife who wanted garage space.  Can you believe that?  I came to live with my current owner and have been garaged since.  I guess some would say my condition is average for my age. I was fortunate to have a new engine from the block up with a 1600 cc big valve engine with Engle 110 cam with lightened lifters, a 2 barrel Weber progessive linkage carburetor, a one and five eights inch dual quiet pack header system and a chrome distributor.  Windshield wipers work.  New owner should buy new tires.  My owner has a lot of hobbies and has driven me less than 500 miles with this new engine.  I have a black Mercedes convertible top and the exterior of the top is in great condition.  The rear window in the top is heated glass.  When my owner put my top down today, it did not drop into the stored postion.   I have been garaged and tuned up and my gas has been drained and new fuel in tank.  Just need to be driven.

Lets talk interior.  I have a custom interior tucked and rolled seats done by an upholsterer who has done work for a local car museum.  Originial heater knobs and emergency brake.  Windows are manual and work and the glove compartment is in good shape.

Notice I am leaving my exterior to the last.  My painters unfortunately misrepresented their skills.  Paint is blistering on rocker panels and paint boils in multiple locations.  Pictures to follow.  Karmann Ghia insignia is missing from the trunk and a small piece from the front bumper is missing and there is some pitting of the bumpers. Passenger side door sticks but sometimes opens freely.  I am still a head turner.  My owner leaves me unlocked and she finds people sitting in me waxing nostalgic about their fond history with the Karmann Ghia.  I am really 5 yard car.  Stand 5 yards away from me and I look really good.  I have more pictures and will be glad to send.

I am going to be advertising locally.  Auction may be ended early if sold locally.  Title is available and clear.  Car is located in Port Orchard, Washington.  Owner is selling me as she has too many play toys.  Question welcomed and encouraged.

2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.

Volkswagen Cross Up! headed for production after Geneva reveal

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

The last time we saw the Volkswagen Cross Up!, it was sitting out in the snow in prototype form, but the next time we'll see this slightly more rugged version of the diminutive Up! hatchback will be when it makes its production debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Looking like a micro-crossover with its raised ground clearance and black cladding, the Cross Up! will be the fourth "Cross" model for VW (after the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran) when it goes on sale this summer in mainland Europe (UK sales remain up in the air and US sales are highly unlikely).
Overall, the styling of the production Cross Up! has stayed fairly true to the 2011 concept car, including the front and rear fascias that offer a more rugged look, stocky 16-inch wheels and roof rack side rails. Inside, this model will get unique interior enhancements such as "Cross Up!" sill plates and an instrument panel available in red, black or silver. Like the regular Up!, the Cross Up! is powered by a 74-horsepower, 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission, and it doesn't look like all-wheel drive will be part of the picture. For more details on the upcoming Cross Up!, check out VW's press release posted below.

VW readying new VR6 with forced induction

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

Volkswagen built a stonking, narrow-angle V6 in the 1980s and 1990s that was found in three different generations of the Golf (their performance iterations, obviously), three generations of the Passat, the New Beetle, the Corrado and the Touareg, among other VWs, a spate of Audis, Seats, a Skoda, and even the Porsche Cayenne. It was a sad day when it was announced that it'd be put out to pasture.
Rejoice, though, fans of the venerable VR6, because Volkswagen has a new, modern variant in the works that, according to AutoWeek, features direct injection and can easily be fitted with forced induction. In fact, AW mentions Volkswagen insiders that claim this unit will spawn a production version of the twin-turbo V6 shown on the Design Vision GTI from this year's Wörthersee festival. That unit produced an epic 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Don't expect a production unit with that level of power (although it would make a hardy RS4 powerplant), though. In reality, AutoWeek is suspecting anywhere from 340 to 450 horsepower from the new mill. When it arrives at an undisclosed date in the future, it'll likely be found in the Passat and Passat CC as well as the production version of the CrossBlue.
