Karmann Ghia Convertible 1972 White on 2040-cars
Manchester Township, New Jersey, United States
Bought in 1988, 93,000 mi., as restoration hobby, it was white. Rusted headlights, rocker panels and foot went through the floor when first put duck taped top down. Kraco radio 1990 Stripped car of everything and flat bedded to welding shop for 3 years. All rust cut out and metal replaced and new floor pan. Body squared and made solid. found out original color was orange 1993 assembled car, new shocks, brakes and fluid, and exhaust, reviewed engine (OK), then drove to friends body shop. Kept for 3 years all body work done (see pictures) and then several coats of Mercedes white paint and clear coat. Sand blasted all rims, black inside/silver outside. Car now always kept in a locked garage. 1997 Specialist in Dover, NJ put in new carpets, new leather on seats, new convertible top. Then added Panasonic amfmcd with 5x7 speakers that sit on rear seat with Velcro...sounds great. 2002 Drove 100 miles to retirement village in Whiting, NJ, again garage kept, just used for local concerts and drive around. Plates: "QQ 72 Karm", did not put more than 100 miles per year. 2008, stopped driving car except for start up 4x/yr and drove around the block to keep gaskets wet and rotate flat spots on tires. Now too old to do any more work or enjoy the car as I used to. Car is FOB Whiting, NJ, suggest flat bed as it has not been driven far in a long time. current mileage is 94,500. It will start now and runs good. Car will come with many extras, cover, manuals, spare parts. Auto stick shift works great, factory AC is missing compressor. Tons of additional pictures to substantiate. |

Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring
Tue, 16 Apr 2013The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.
World Car Of The Year down to its final four
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.
Anti-UAW VW workers move to form own union
Sat, 30 Aug 2014The struggle over unionization at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. There's now a second union fighting to organize at the plant; although this one is staunchly against the actions of the United Auto Workers. At the same time, the UAW is still signing up voluntary members to its recently created Local 42 at the facility and is reportedly near having a majority of the hourly employees on its side.
The new, anti-UAW union campaign is being spearheaded by employee Mike Burton, according to Reuters, and he calls his group the American Council of Employees. He claims to already have 108 signatures in support of his organization. Burton believes that the UAW is harmful to businesses, and his goal is to force another vote to determine a preferred union among workers.
The UAW was initially defeated (712 to 626) when it attempted a union vote at the Tennessee plant in February. However, UAW secretary-treasurer Gary Casteel told Reuters that Local 42 has already signed up over 700 members. If it can reach a majority of the roughly 1,500 employees, the group hopes VW might consider recognizing it as the factory's union.
