1998 Volkswagon Passat 1.8t , 4 cylinder turbo , 4 speed automatic transmission front wheel drive. This car  was assembled in Germany and has been in my family for 3 or 4 years now and has been  very reliable , never let us down . I bought it used and drove this car as a 2nd car for a year or so (in the winter primarily to keep the kms of my truck) and then loaned it to my it to my sister in law for almost a year when her car went down . I then gifted it to my mother in law who has her grandson on her policy and he has been driving it for the last year for work from Hamilton to Kitchener. He is currently driving the car until he takes delivery of his newer car next week , if you want a test drive I will do my best to accommodate but can't guarantee it .  To my knowledge It has never been in an accident or at least not well we have owned it . An undercover police officer backed into the front driver side fender recently  though and i replaced the corner turn signal light on both sides so they would match , i also pushed out the dents and touched up the paint where needed and for it's age still shines up pretty good . It is not an eyesore... look at the pictures

It starts , runs and drives and stops very well in my opinion . All the lights gauges and glass are good ,It has power windows and locks and as far as i know they  are also operational . The car is as clean underneath as it is on the surface look at the pictures.  The cruise control doesn't work ... never has while we have owned it , the ABS module is non functioning (not part of safety) and the ABS light is on as a result , the light is obnoxiously bright yellow so i placed a removable piece of electrical tape over it on the panel , very common on these VW cars ,the heated seats also don't work . The transmission shifts smoothly without slipping , the tip-tronic feature is non functioning... again typical of these VW's  The AC does still work how ever the  fan switch went on the car so until that part is replaced no AC , I replaced the fan resistor and the fan motor when the switch went as those are usually the  common cause  however i was wrong , go figure  ,  I have wired in the fan to a toggle switch so the windshield will still defrost or de-fog when required . The tires are snow tires and have approx 60-80% tread , one of them picked up a nail recently at a construction site though and the  full size spare is on the car . All 4 tires hold air like they should.... The brakes work , not sure about the parking brake though ? . The exhaust is solid however there is a leak in the flex pipe that should be welded to make it more quiet however it's not obnoxious at this point , sounds a bit like a quiet diesel  . I changed the spark plugs recently for routine maintenance and the car uses or leaks about 1/2 a litre of oil in between changes ... again normal for a VW .

This would make a great student , 2nd or commuter car.... It's built solid like a tank yet fuel efficient and if maintained will last indefinitely  .

The check engine light is NOT on so it should e-test ok , I will e-test it if i have time as i know the price of this auction will go up based on the fact if it  passes ...

Again it is being sold AS IS , I will not ship this car under any circumstances however I would feel comfortable driving across the province in it ... Not that I am willing to do so.

If you ask me  a stupid question ? you will surely get a stupid answer...

Bid accordingly

My feedback is strong , I don't play games and have been honest about everything  ,Only bid if you have the money , no zero feedback bidders PLEASE or I may cancel your bid if you don't contact me first .... I may also end the auction at any point if I get a strong bidder with high positive feedback . Again no reserve  so bid early or you will be disappointed . I'm starting the auction at what the wrecker will give me if I drive the car in , any more will be a bonus and will all be passed onto my mother in law .

Here is a HD youtube video of the Passat running  , i took the video today with my blackberry ....

Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.

Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.

Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]

Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
