Five Speed Tiptronic Transmission!  In manual mode you will just be shifting out of second gear as you pass 60 MPH!  No problem merging with traffic! This unique Passat W8 has had only two owners - both with no children.  The present owner is a meticulous retired airline pilot who has spared no expense to keep everything in perfect condition.  When professional refinishing did not remove 100% of the headlight lens haze, both headlights were replaced with factory new ones, at $500 each.  Front brakes were just replaced.  Rear brakes are fine.  This car just passed the NH state inspection.  It comes with EIGHT brand new tires (less than 5,000 miles on them), one set of original VW alloy wheels and one new last year set of wheels & winter Michelins from Tire Rack - all wheels road force balanced. VW requires full synthetic oil and recommends oil changes every ten thousand miles.  I have had the oil changed every five thousand.  It has a trailer hitch which has only been used to mount a bike rack.   It has only been serviced ONLY by certified Volkswagen and Audi technicians.  It has never seen a Jiffy Lube or a McDonald's drive through.  No food has been eaten in this vehicle! In the three years that I have owned it I have only carried a passenger on two occasions.  The leather steering wheel is in almost mint condition because it has had a cover on it most of the time.  I just bought a new set of VW Monster mats at a cost of $99 - only because there was a small hole in the driver's mat.  Always garaged!  Other than two and a half years in New Hampshire it lived its earlier life in sunny Dallas, Texas where it was also garaged - so no sun damage.  Many luxury features like headlight washers!  Lots of parts from the Audi parts bin in this unique vehicle which originally listed for almost $40,000. Unlike later model wagons and SUV's the bottom of the back seats are hinged at the base and fold forward, providing a protective barrier between driver, passenger and any cargo. VW recommends premium fuel, which I have used.  However, it will adjust to and run on lower grades. With EIGHT cylinders the acceleration is smooth, vibration-free and awesome.  On cruise control at interstate speeds of 65-75 MPH it averages 26-27 MPG which results in a range of over 525 miles!  Note actual computer calculated range in one of the photos. Further than Boston MA - Washington DC!
List Price when new:  $39,275.00   All service records available. This car was ahead of its time safety-wise, with stability control and side curtain airbags!

Skoda unveils Volkswagen Up!-based Citigo

Tue, 27 Sep 2011

This is the all-new Skoda Citigo, and if you're thinking that it looks rather familiar, that's because its Volkswagen-badged kin recently debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. That's right, the long-rumored Skoda version of Volkswagen's new Up! city car has finally arrived.
Buyers will have a choice of two 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines - one with 59 horsepower, the other with a 74 hp and a blistering 106 mph top speed - both mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Powerful they are not, but these three-bangers should prove to be extremely efficient, with Skoda quoting fuel economy numbers of 62.8 and 60.1 miles per gallon, respectively (on the European cycle).
Being a Skoda, the Citigo will go on sale in its home market of the Czech Republic this fall, with the rest of Europe getting the car next summer. Follow the jump for Skoda's official release.

2014 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible gets the R-Line treatment

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Volkswagen just launched the topless Beetle Convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but we're already seeing the next step forward in the topless Bug range with this, the R-Line. We'll admit, this treatment falls under the "all show and no go" category, but it's still a pretty potent little cutie.
The R-Line starts with a standard Beetle Turbo Convertible but adds unique 19-inch aluminum wheels on lower-profile tires, LED daytime running lamps and Xenon headlamps. Naturally, there are R-Line badges aplenty both on the interior and exterior, and we must say, the whole package looks pretty darn snazzy.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but when it goes on sale later this year, the hotter convertible will join Volkswagen's growing R-Line portfolio that now includes the CC, Beetle hatch, Tiguan and Touareg.

VW to relax ambitious US sales targets?

Fri, 16 May 2014

The Volkswagen brand sold 407,704 cars last year, a 6.95-percent decline compared to 2012, and it's down a further 8.36 percent through the end of April 2014 compared to this time last year. In order to to put the sales football between its Strategy 2018 goal posts, the brand would need to add 100,000 more sales every year to achieve the lofty 800,000-unit target. Coming to grips with how unreasonable that is, VW US CEO Michael Horn has said, "For now, we have to have realistic targets."
The reasons for the brand's slow-down are imprecise, but lots of folks are throwing lots of reasons around. Last November, VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Bloomberg, "We understand Europe, we understand China and we understand Brazil, [but] we only understand the US to a certain degree so far." Analysts say the brand hasn't had midsize and compact SUV offerings, especially an overdue retail version of the CrossBlue, and the ones it does have are priced too high for their segments. It "didn't introduce enough new engines, or alternative technologies or model variants" for the Passat and Jetta. It devoted so many resources to China that the US market suffered. It was being outspent two-to-one on advertising by competitors. Its J.D. Power dependability ratings aren't high enough to overcome its past. It "has never really taken the US customer seriously." And so on.
There's still no official admission of defeat concerning the target, but reading between the lines there are some VW execs that appear to accept it won't happen short of some deus ex machina. Still,
