1981 Volkswagan Rabbit Diesel Pick-up Truck Caddy on 2040-cars

You're looking at a 1981 Volkswagen rabbit caddy with a turbo charged diesel engine. Although there's still a few of these trucks around even though they were only imported in 1981 and 1982 there are very few that are in this condition. This truck spent most of it's life in Southern California before moving to Indiana and has always been stored inside during the winters. The turbocharger is out of a Jetta that was installed before I ever purchased the truck. Although it does decrease the fuel mileage by a small percent it really peps the truck up over the stock diesel engine.
This truck has a five speed transmission and has 125,638 miles.
This truck had new glow plugs and a new timing belt installed less than 1000 miles ago. It also had new shift linkage installed around that same time period. This truck is absolutely perfect mechanically and runs like a top. There's absolutely nothing on it that does not work properly besides the clock that for some reason just stopped working recently.
Although it will be tough to find another truck of this age in this condition it is not new and does have a minor flaws. As the photo shows the Driver seat could use some attention. The dash does not have any cracks in it which is almost unheard of on these trucks.
It has a matching set of Bridgestone tires on it that are probably close to 90% on tread.
This truck always puts a smile on my face when driving it as I love the fact that it costs almost nothing to drive.
I never thought I would end up selling this truck and figured I'd keep it till the day I died, but I have just inquired way too much stuff and I simply do not have time to take care of everything the way it is.

Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch
Sun, 20 Apr 2014This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.
Volkswagen iBeetle gets integrated iPhone dock, little else
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Apple fans have been itching to see the tech giant flex the full muscle of its iOS operating system in an automotive infotainment system for years, which is why we turned all sorts of excited when we caught wind of the Volkswagen iBeetle. The machine is headed to the Shanghai Motor Show for a debut, and VW promised it would be one of the "first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple." Listen closely, and you can hear the contented sigh of a million wallets opening.
Go ahead and close those up, kids.
In reality, the iBeetle offers little more than a dash-mounted dock and a special app that shows a few vehicle functions, which is about as far from an infotainment revolution as you're likely to find. In fact, the setup is little more than a factory rehash of aftermarket items, and hardly worth a whole model debut at an international motor show. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Apple relishes in changing the shape and form of its darling handheld at every generation. Volkswagen better be prepared to keep pace with appropriate docking mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, et al.
VW confirms development of 10-speed dual clutch, 134-hp/liter diesel
Fri, 26 Apr 2013Each year, the Vienna International Motor Symposium showcases some of the up-and-coming technologies automakers are engineering for the use in passenger cars, and Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn revealed some big developments VW is working on for its future products. Winterkorn discussed a multi-faceted approach that VW is looking to reduce its fleet fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
Some of the bigger news he discussed included a "high-performance" diesel engine that will produce 134 horsepower per liter and a 10-speed DSG automatic transmission. While no specific applications were mentioned, we can only hope this is for the Audi R4 we keep hearing about.
Another topic he touched on that caused us to perk up our ears was had to do with VW's plug-in hybrid technology. While we know the PHEV versions of the Audi A3 and Porsche Panamera are on the way, Winterkorn also said that these two models will be followed up by Golf, Passat, Audi A6 and Porsche Cayenne plug-in models.
