1972 Volkswagen Squareback Kasan Red Auto Gas Heat Lots Of Accessories! on 2040-cars

US $8,500.00
Year:1972 Mileage:99999
Location:

1972 VW Squareback.

For the good: Car was restored in 2000. New shocks and lots of mechanicals were replaced at same time like rotors, calipers, steering box, shocks, etc. Body was stripped to bare metal and received new outer lower rockers, POR'ed, and repainted in original single stage. There are some chips and a few scratches, but probably nothing that can't be polished out since it's single stage. All new rubber was installed as well as a a new headliner and new carpet.

Transmission was rebuilt and used engine was put in after previous engine failed. We had it fitted with dual weber carbs. Generator was just replaced recently, as the original died from running the gas heat all the time. Tires were replaced less than 500 miles ago as well.

Car is fitted with a sony cd changer, but with original radio and upgraded single center speaker. All vinyl is otherwise original and in excellent condition. VDO guages for oil temp, pressure, and cylinder head temp are all functional.

For the bad: I'm taking this to the extreme - I don't want anyone to be unhappy. It's a great driver and with a little work, can be a show car. Car suffered from being driven lots and also from being stored outdoors for many years seeing rain and snow. Car has some rust in the front tire wells down where the pan meets the body. Pan also had some rust holes in the rear battery area so has some so-so repairs there. No spare tire or spare tire well. Gas heat pump sometimes doesn't want to run from lack of use. Takes a bit of priming to get it to work. Bumper and bumper overriders have some corrosion - bumpers were re-chromed and NOS overriders installed, but they did not age well. Engine leaks oil - we will have it serviced prior to pickup with fresh oil. Wiring is functional, but not pretty. Air intake grills on rear fenders have some bubbling and probably need refinishing at some point. No rear seat belts. Odometer does not work.

Lots of upgrades:

Factory clock delete
Factory coco mats (a little UV fading)
Factory rear mud flaps
Factory parcel tray
Factory gas heater
NOS dash (now starting to crack a little)
NOS gas cap flap rubber
NOS driver's side VW blind spot mirror
Nardi steering wheel (cannot tell if this is repro or original - it is very nice quality regardless)
Original EMPI wheels
European tail lenses
Used rare/vintage Hella driving lights - make sure you see everything at night! Similar to those used on Porsche 356s.
CB performance rear disc brake conversion
Electric fuel pump

I used to drive this car all the time, it just hasn't been drive in the last two years much, so time to sell.

VW readying new VR6 with forced induction

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

Volkswagen built a stonking, narrow-angle V6 in the 1980s and 1990s that was found in three different generations of the Golf (their performance iterations, obviously), three generations of the Passat, the New Beetle, the Corrado and the Touareg, among other VWs, a spate of Audis, Seats, a Skoda, and even the Porsche Cayenne. It was a sad day when it was announced that it'd be put out to pasture.
Rejoice, though, fans of the venerable VR6, because Volkswagen has a new, modern variant in the works that, according to AutoWeek, features direct injection and can easily be fitted with forced induction. In fact, AW mentions Volkswagen insiders that claim this unit will spawn a production version of the twin-turbo V6 shown on the Design Vision GTI from this year's Wörthersee festival. That unit produced an epic 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Don't expect a production unit with that level of power (although it would make a hardy RS4 powerplant), though. In reality, AutoWeek is suspecting anywhere from 340 to 450 horsepower from the new mill. When it arrives at an undisclosed date in the future, it'll likely be found in the Passat and Passat CC as well as the production version of the CrossBlue.

Lamborghini and Bentley may hold off on SUVs so VW can conserve cash

Thu, 11 Oct 2012

After surveying the European economic scene, Volkswagen may have decided now is not the time to launch utility vehicles with Bentley and Lamborghini badges. Bentley officials say they will continue to push for support for the EXP 9 F and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman has said planning for the Urus will continue until VW tells it to stop.
That decision could come on November 23, when VW's board will vote on the company's budget for equipment, factories and vehicles. With VW's sales slowing and the Euro economy slumping further, some industry watchers say the company is more likely to build its cash reserves than to introduce super-expensive luxury SUVs or crossovers.
"Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis," says Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt in a new Automotive News Europe story. "Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs."
