Year:1992 Mileage:162000

If you have been looking for the right 240 daily driver; this is it. Owned by a Volvo enthusiast: 1992 Volvo 240 Base Wagon. 162K miles. I looked for a long time for a great example and then did all the things to it that are needed to make these a dependable car for the second half of its life. This car has no rust, no cracks in the dash, clean title, good paint and it's been well cared for all its life. I hate to see this car go.

Not a repair but renewed because these are areas that 240s need attention:
- suspension bushes in front.
- crankcase oil breather box and plumbing
- rear camshaft seal and IPD seal retainer kit
- down pipe -- rest of exhaust was fine
- rear shocks -- fronts fine
- engine mounts
- fuel filter and fuel pump
- lambda sensor
- hoses
- belts
- extra fuel pump relay
- paint clayed, polished and sealed - The paint was in great shape to start with. This will make it last.
- turn signal and brake light assemblies

The following I did as a repair:
- alternator
- cam cover gasket

Options on car:
- fairly new OEM mud mats front, back and cargo
- factory folding third row seat

What the car needs now and in future as far as I can tell:
- the battery is getting a little tired but is still tests good
- power steering pump is also getting a little tired but not ready for replacement
- radio antenna (full assembly) easy install and $63.40 from ipdusa.com
- stereo speakers front and rear

Defects:
Door ding on driver's door. Scrape on back of front driver's side wheel well edge. See side image. Small tear on top of back seat. See image of cargo area. Various little things you find on a well cared for 22 year old car.

Price is $6200. These go for $500 (junk but drives 300K+ miles) to $14,000 (perfect time machine <50K miles). It's hard to put value on these via blue book. I paid $5,500, after looking around a lot, and put about $3000 worth of work in it. These cars easily go 300K and I've taken care of the normal issues that may come up. This is my third Volvo wagon. The first two, I drove more than 300K miles and maintained them myself. Call me with any questions 530-598-9244.

The disclaimer stuff: Buyer is responsible for pick up or arranging shipping from my residence in Sacramento, CA. Non-refundable deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of purchase; remainder due within five days of purchase AND before taking possession of vehicle. Vehicle is sold as is without warranty for mechanical condition or safety. Buyer is fully responsible for vehicle safety upon taking possession of vehicle. It is highly recommended the buyer have the car reviewed by a certified Volvo mechanic before driving it.

Volvo unveils all-new user interface destined for next-gen XC90 [w/video]

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Take a close look at the cabin of the Volvo Concept Estate shown above. One of the big features on the fancy, brown shooting brake is an all-new user interface called, well, it doesn't really have a name, at least not one Volvo is revealing.
The refreshingly nameless system looks seriously impressive based on the short video that accompany's the system's press release. The jewel of the whole interface is a sizable touchscreen that manages most every in-car function save for a few vital functions like volume, hazard lights and other systems that still demand a more tactile interface.
"The basic idea is to organize controls and information in a perfectly intuitive and user- friendly way. Everything is exactly where you expect it to be, making the drive more enjoyable, efficient, and safe," Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo's Senior Vice President of Design, said in a statement.

Volvo V70 and XC70 and Ocean Race special editions wash ashore ahead of Geneva

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

Volvo will unveil the third in its series of new concepts to the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, but it will also bring a flotilla of special editions to the Swiss show. The V70 and XC70 are getting limited-edition models called simply Edition, and the V40, V40 Cross Country, V60 and XC60 will have Volvo Ocean Race Editions.
The Edition models outfit the cars with an extra sprinkling of style. The V70 Edition gets high-gloss black trim on the grille, mirror caps, side window frames and tailgate and rides on silver, 17-inch wheels with high-gloss black 17-inch and 18-inch wheels as options. The XC70 Edition adds some gloss black exterior upgrades too, plus high-gloss black, 18-inch diamond-cut wheels. Both models are swathed in black leather upholstery with cream stitching.
The Volvo Ocean Race Editions celebrate the brand's sponsorship of a 38,739-nautical-mile yacht race that will circumnavigate the world from 2014 to 2015. All of them sport the race logo on the tread plates, front fenders, infotainment display on start-up and special seven-spoke wheels. Inside, there is the choice of black or blonde leather seats with orange stitching. The 60-series cars also sport a map of the race route on the rear load cover.

Volvo still undecided on offering plug-in hybrid versions of all models

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

The automotive world is only a few months away from getting its first real glimpse at Volvo's big gamble with the unveiling of the next-generation XC90 (pictured above as the Concept XC Coupe). We're already getting a preview of the revolutionary upgrades with the introduction of the Swede's Volvo Engine Architecture family into some of its 2015 models, like the recently driven S60. These changes are just the start, though. The real magic could be in the powertrains.
Dean Shaw, Volvo Cars North America vice president of corporate communications hinted to Autoblog a few months ago that every model sold in the US could come in a plug-in hybrid variant, starting with the new XC90. Despite confirmation rumors that this has now come to pass, Shaw told AutoblogGreen that the only thing Volvo is confirming right now is that the platform is capable of that. "We haven't confirmed that all US Volvos would be available with PHEV," he said.
Shaw did confirm that that XC90 will come with a gas and plug-in hybrid powertrain that offers "around 400 horsepower." According to Plugin Cars, the new XC90 will be unveiled in August and will make its public debut at an as-yet-unnamed auto show in the fall. Also, sometime during the 2016 model year, a plug-in hybrid variant will be added to its lineup.
