1993 Volvo 240 sedan RARE RED COLOR!! This car gets a lot of attention.
Only 188,380 miles on this 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, air conditioning automobile. I say "only" because my mechanic who specializes in Volvos says this car will run for at least 300,000 miles easily with regular maintenance...beats a car payment and it is an awesome, safe dependable classic car.
This car has been lovingly maintained for the 9 years I have owned it. I have put under 7,000 miles per year on it since I have owned it, but drive it regularly. It is a safe, dependable tank of a car. I am selling only because I need a vehicle that I can haul more in because I have started doing art shows.
Power locks through driver door lock and power windows all work except passenger window has to be opened by driver (passenger can close). The cloth interior is in good condition-no tears, wear spots or burns. There is one small tear in the floor carpet on the driver side and one chip in the windshield. There are no cracks on the dash. It has an after market stereo with CD player and audio cable for satellite radio or iPod. Front and back speakers. Set of 2 snow tires included-used only one season (year before last-no snow last year!) Headliner is in almost perfect condition-no marks.
I bought this car 9 years ago from a dealer in Louisville, KY. It has been maintained regularly. I get the oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3-6 months. I have all the records.
- Last month-new brakes including rotors, new fuel relay, AC charged
- 2010-replaced transmission
- Body work to remove rust on driver's side fender.
- Paint is in great condition for age of car. Rubbed spot on trunk, clear coat chip on roof post. No active rust.
- Hole in exhaust system was recently patched and not replaced so it may last for years.
The vehicle is sold AS IS.

Volvo to shake off Ford ties with new platforms, engines
Sat, 23 Feb 2013
It would seem Volvo is finally getting around to throwing all of Ford's things out of the apartment. Automotive News reports the Swedish automaker is preparing to unleash a range of new engines as well as a fresh platform designed entirely in house. The powerplants include an all-new four-cylinder engine set to bow before the end of this year before arriving in the US by 2014. Shortly thereafter, the world should get its first glimpse at the next-generation XC60, which will the company's first model to make use of the Volvo scalable platform architecture (SPA). US buyers can expect to see that machine on their roads by early 2015.
The next V70 and S80 will also use the SPA, though those models will carry V90 and S90 designations when they hit dealer floors. But that doesn't mean Volvo has completely weened itself off of Ford technology. The V40 will continue to ride on Ford bones until the model's next chassis can be co-developed between Volvo and Geely.
Volvo prices revamped 2014 lineup
Thu, 01 Aug 2013Volvo has made quite a few changes to its US lineup for the 2014 model year. The C30 hatchback and C70 convertible are gone; the S60, S80, XC60 and XC70 have all been reschnozzed; and in a few months, Volvo will bring its V60 wagon across the pond for Stateside consumption. Only the range-topping XC90 carries on unchanged, though a brand new version is expected to launch sometime next year.
The S60 starts as low as $32,400 for the entry level T5 model, and reaches as high as $45,700 for the T6 R-Design Platinum trim. The larger S80 sedan starts at $39,900, with its range-topping T6 Platinum version commanding $48,150. XC70 pricing ranges anywhere from $34,500 for the 3.2 FWD to $45,650 for the T6 Platinum, XC60 numbers span from $34,850 to $49,800, and XC90 prices start as low as $39,700 and as high as $45,400. None of these prices include $895 for destination, and pricing for the swoopy V60 wagon has not been released just yet.
While the majority of Volvo's 2014 model year enhancements are visual, some neat updates have been made mechanically, as well. There's a new Advanced Quick Shift mode for the six-speed automatic transmission that's paired with the turbocharged six-cylinder engine, and Volvo says that the S60 R-Design will now scoot to 60 miles per hour two-tenths of a second quicker (5.3 versus 5.5). In the XC60 R-Design, AQS improves 0-60 acceleration by four-tenths of a second, down to 6.2 from 6.6 seconds.
Volvo demos autonomous self-parking car concept
Thu, 20 Jun 2013A number of companies are developing autonomous vehicle technology - Google and Audi come to mind - but Volvo is applying its work in the area to a particular usage case: parking. The Swedish automaker has the technology up and running in a concept vehicle, which it says can be dropped off at the curb by its owner and left to its own devices to enter and navigate a car park, then find and park in an available parking spot. Volvo says the process can even be reversed when the owner is ready to go, with the car leaving the car park on its own to meet its key-holder again at the curb.
The vehicle first interacts with Vehicle 2 Infrastructure technology, which places transmitters in the road itself to inform the car (and driver) if the self-parking service is available. The driver then hops out, activates the Self Parking function on his or her smartphone and then leaves the car to do its work. The car uses sensors, all seemingly hidden from view (an advancement of its own in this field), to autonomously navigate the car park, which includes interacting and adjusting to other cars, people and objects.
The technology used here builds off of Volvo's other work in autonomous vehicle research, namely the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) project in which the company managed to create a train of four cars autonomously following a lead truck at speeds up 56 miles per hour. Volvo says the first application of its autonomous research in a production vehicle will happen at the end of 2014 with some level of autonomous steering available in the next-generation XC90.
