Deale, Maryland, United States

Very nice 1988 240 wagon, rust free, Maryland inspected, fully serviced ready to go. Selling for a friend, car shows 132 k miles on the odometer, the odometer was recently repaired and is now working correctly. His son has used the car for the last 5 years, a semi starving artist, 2 trips to Florida and the store on the weekends. His studio is in downtown DC and he can't afford to park there so he rides the metro everyday. From what the father told me there are less than 150 k miles on the car. Looking over the car and driving it I agree, it is tight and smooth with a sharp interior.  Dad is a 35 year Volvo Master tech who took good care of it for his son. Rust free Rose beige exterior, good paint, one line in the drivers door a few dings in the right quarter by the tail light and 1 or 2 dings on the roof.  No rust ever, good doors, quarters and floors. Brown vinyl  interior and carpet are really good. It has basic crank windows, but does have power locks. After market CD / radio works great. Ac is cold and working fine. Engine and transmission are the super durable 2.4 litre B230 f and AW 70 auto transmission, they are running great and ready to go another 200 k miles.  Tires have less than 200 miles on them, brakes and exhaust are fine. Car has passed Maryland inspection, it is really tough so it will pass in your home state. I am selling this for a friend, if you are local we can do a private sale, go to the Mva and get your tags. If you are coming from out of town, I can write it up at the dealership where I work part time, get you a 60 day temporary tag for $149 so you can drive it home legal. Proof of insurance is required. If you fly in to BWI (southwest reasonable cost) or DCA we offer free pick up at the airport, train or bus station. Buy with confidence you can drive this car anywhere in the USA or Canada. I have sold hundreds of Volvo 240's in the last 20 years and can tell you this is a great one. Car can be seen and test driven week days in Bryans Road, MD 20616 or eves and weekends in Deale Md 20751. Call Brian for more info and an appointment to come see and drive this fine car. Tony Nicolosi named CEO of Volvo Cars North America

Fri, 04 Oct 2013

Volvo announced today that it has named Tony Nicolosi, president and CEO of Volvo Car Financial Services VCFS), as the new CEO of Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA). Nicolosi replaces John Maloney, who chose to leave due to family obligations after Volvo offered him a position in Europe.
Volvo says Nicolosi will remain president and CEO of VCFS while he assumes VCNA's top position. The Swedish automaker also says a "permanent successor [to Maloney] as President and CEO will be the subject of a later announcement."
The move comes as part of a management shakeup that's part of a "larger transformation taking place at Volvo," the automaker says.

Volvos will brake for bicyclists with new detection technology

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Anyone who pedals a bicycle knows that one of the biggest dangers to riders is a motorized vehicle - Volvo estimates that nearly 50 percent of all cyclists killed in European traffic have collided with a car. In the United States alone, 618 riders lost their lives in bicycle/motor vehicle crashes in 2010, and the number of injuries surpassed 52,000.
To help drop those numbers, Volvo has just announced Cyclist Detection with full auto brake - a technology that detects and automatically applies a vehicle's brakes when a cyclist swerves in front of a moving car. The basic components of the system include a radar unit integrated into the front grille, a camera fitted in front of the interior rear-view mirror and a central control unit. The radar is tasked with seeing obstacles in front of the vehicle and calculating distance, while the camera is responsible to determine what the object is. The central control unit, with rapid processing capabilities, monitors and evaluates the situation.
The technology, which will be sold bundled with its Pedestrian Detection and called Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, will automatically apply full braking when both the radar and camera confirm a pedestrian or cyclist are in the immediate path of the vehicle. According to the automaker, the technology will be offered on the Volvo V40, S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models from mid-May in 2013.

2015 Volvo Ocean Race XC60 priced from $42,100*

Mon, 10 Nov 2014

Every three years, a half dozen or so teams of sailors embark on an epic eight-month, round-the-world sailboat race formerly called the Whitbread Round the World Race and known since 2001 as the Volvo Ocean Race. This year's event started a month ago in Alicante, Spain, and will end next June at the Swedish automaker's hometown of Gothenburg. And to mark the occasion, just as it has in years past, Volvo has launched a special edition of one of its roadgoing models.
The Volvo Ocean Race XC60 was launched this weekend at the Miami Auto Show. Based on the XC60 crossover we know well, the limited edition is distinguished by its Ocean Blue II paintjob, unique 18-inch wheels, a choice of black or light leather interior with orange stitching and a series of special badges inside and out.
Buyers will be able to choose between the T6 Drive-E and T6 AWD models, priced from $42,100 and $43,600 respectively. That represents a $1,200 premium over models on which they're based, on top of which, Volvo has confirmed in correspondence with Autoblog, the usual $925 destination charge applies.
