1992 Silver Volvo 740 on 2040-cars
Newport, Rhode Island, United States
1992 Volvo 740.
Imported Directly from Sweden for diplomatic purposes. 4spd Auto w/overdrive, silver, 2.3L 4 cyl. NA. Garage kept its ENTIRE life, very little corrosion underneath, some slight paint bubble on rear door in the low corner (hardly noticeable but prefer full disclosure). Options include; European fog light switch heated black cloth interior (my grandfather preferred cloth) sunroof AC Car is completely stock, recently has had 4 new tires (less than 5K on them), oil change, oil breather replaced, timing belt replaced. ALL POWER FEATURES WORK, including the power antennae Last year of this body style, RWD, built like a tank and very heavy, really might be your last chance to purchase a pristine Volvo from this era. A few cosmetic door dings (maybe 2) and a nick on the front bumper from where my grandmother hit a shopping cart (also required the front headlight replaced). Very well maintained and loved, spacious car, unfortunately I recently purchased a new vehicle and would like to keep it in the garage so this needs a new home. I have considered keeping the vehicle but my father has informed me that he no longer has any attachment to this car and would prefer I sell it so someone can enjoy it. You would be hard pressed to find a car of this size and upkeep for a similar price. I actually really enjoy driving this car, its comfortable and has a massive trunk that easily accommodates 4 or 5 sets of golf clubs. Thank you for looking |

Watch Volvo's V8 Supercar drivers play with the Polestar S60 in the Arctic
Thu, 03 Apr 2014The Volvo S60 Polestar may not seem like a natural fit for the V8 Supercars series that runs throughout Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. After all, the all-wheel-drive production-spec car isn't even available with a V8. But the rear-wheel-drive racing version has acquitted itself well in the early races of the season, even scoring an overall win at a race in Melbourne. Currently at seventh place in the championship, the S60 the most successful car that isn't a Holden or Ford.
To celebrate its burgeoning success, Volvo sent its V8 Supercars drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin to home base in Sweden to have some fun driving in the snow and to visit Polestar headquarters. The two of them do some big power slides on an icy lake and then taker a deeper look into the company's performance division. Scroll down to watch the video full of sliding Swedish sedans.
Volvo to shake off Ford ties with new platforms, engines
Sat, 23 Feb 2013
It would seem Volvo is finally getting around to throwing all of Ford's things out of the apartment. Automotive News reports the Swedish automaker is preparing to unleash a range of new engines as well as a fresh platform designed entirely in house. The powerplants include an all-new four-cylinder engine set to bow before the end of this year before arriving in the US by 2014. Shortly thereafter, the world should get its first glimpse at the next-generation XC60, which will the company's first model to make use of the Volvo scalable platform architecture (SPA). US buyers can expect to see that machine on their roads by early 2015.
The next V70 and S80 will also use the SPA, though those models will carry V90 and S90 designations when they hit dealer floors. But that doesn't mean Volvo has completely weened itself off of Ford technology. The V40 will continue to ride on Ford bones until the model's next chassis can be co-developed between Volvo and Geely.
Apple CarPlay drawing early safety concerns [w/video]
Sun, 09 Mar 2014Apple's CarPlay infotainment system hasn't made it into a single vehicle yet, and it's already drawing criticism for distracting drivers among safety advocates. The new tech unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show pairs users' iPhones with the car's dashboard display to make calls, dictate messages and listen to music. Some automakers, like Volvo, also let users interact with the HVAC system from the screen.
"The idea that people want to be on their phones, and therefore let's give them a way to do that -- that's not putting safety first, that's putting convenience and the desire to be in touch first," said Bruce Hamilton, manager of research and communications at the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, to CNN Money.
Distracted driving is a huge concern on modern roads with more vehicles allowing drivers to use their smartphones through Bluetooth and infotainment systems. A Texas A&M study found that drivers' reaction time doubled while dictating text messages, according to CNN Money. The new tech is certainly not making drivers pay more attention.
