I HAVE TO SAY, I LOVE DRIVING THIS CAR. IT RUNS SMOOTHLY AND THE MOTOR HAS GREAT POWER WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND NO ISSUES. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GREAT AND THE SUSPENSION IS FINE. 80% LEFT ON THE TIRES AND EVERYTHING WORKS INCLUDING THE TOP, WINDOWS, ICE COLD AC AND HOT HEAT. CRUISE WORKS AS WELL AS THE POWER SEATS. THE MOTOR HAS NO LEAKS AND IS DRY AS A BONE. 90% OF THE COSMETIC ISSUES ON THIS CAR HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE FLORIDA SUN. THE CAR IS GREAT ON THE HIGHWAY AND AROUND TOWN. GOOD GAS MILEAGE AND BEST OF ALL IT'S A ONE OWNER CAR. THE TITLE WAS ISSUED ON 09/09/2004 AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FLORIDA CAR SO NO RUST ISSUES. NEW BATTERY AND RECENT BRAKES. THE SEATS CAN BE RECOVERED IN CLOTH WHICH IS MY PREFERENCE FOR A CONVERTIBLE FOR A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS AND THE REST OF THE LITTLE STUFF CAN BE ADDRESSED IN TIME BECAUSE NONE OF IT IS URGENT. I HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR DETAILED SO I'M SURE AT MOST OF THE BLEMISHES WILL DISAPPEAR WITH A BUFF JOB. Volvo's oldest model earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award [w/video]
Thu, 07 Nov 2013Volvo ought to be tooting its horn over this one. The XC90, an SUV that has essentially been on sale for over 10 years, just captured a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The TSP+ is a new title, reserved for cars that earn "Good" or "Acceptable" ratings on each IIHS crash test.
This is a difficult feat for a new car - Toyota's new Corolla infamously failed to net a Top Safety Pick+ earlier this year - largely because of the new small overlap front tests, which have left many automakers struggling. But Volvo, somehow, was able to conquer the tests with a car that predates the original iPhone by a few years. The XC90 earning a Top Safety Pick+ is like Betty White taking the gold in the decathlon. With Volvo in the midst of working on the XC90's replacement, we're curious to see just how well a more modern version does in crash testing. Volvo will replace C70... eventually
Tue, 05 Nov 2013Volvo has already announced the end of production for its C70 hardtop convertible, a handsome but seriously dated offering that was last refreshed in 2010. Volvo won't be abandoning the two-door coupe-convertible market for long, though, as news out of Australia claims that a replacement, based on the striking Concept Coupe, will join the Chinese-owned, Swedish brand's ranks, although it's unclear precisely when we'll see it on the road.
"Eventually yes... as soon as possible," Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo's CEO, told the Drive, before adding, "when we are ready."
"The Coupe Concept car, we can put that into production and it will have an exposure on the brand. But at the end it's the cream on the cake and at the end you need the cake first before you put the cream on it," said Volvo's Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management, Lex Kerssemakers.
Volvo to unveil permanent high-beam headlamp technology [w/video]
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Volvo will be showing off its Active High Beam technology at the Geneva Motor Show next week. The system will allow drivers to use their high beams all the time and adds another responsibility to the cameras mounted by the rearview mirror, making them detect traffic ahead, whether it be another car or a truck or motorcycle and in the same lane or oncoming. When a vehicle is detected, a special projector in the Xenon lamps can block out only the portion of the high beam that would impair the other driver. Volvo says the system is accurate down to a 1.5-inch margin around another object.
Active High Beam will be fitted to the Volvo S60, V60 and XC60 and we have to assume they mean the non-US versions of those cars. Audi has a similar technology that it calls "matrix beam lighting," and due to the way the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard code is written, such active control of high beams is verboten on cars sold here.
The Swedish brand also plans to present a collision-avoidance technology it's calling a "world-first." The press release below has more information and the accompanying video demonstrates the lighting tech.
