The 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is a four-door sports coupe that’s large, luxurious and very capable.  "Blending performance and luxury into a sexy and modern package, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 and CLS63 AMG let you have your Black Forest cake and eat it, too."

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is a performance-tuned variant of the Mercedes-Benz CLS which is praised for its elegant exterior and interior design, as well as its smooth, controlled ride. The CLS is also responsible for creating an entirely new category of car -- the four-door coupe.

Equipped with substantially more power and state-of-the-art AMG tuning, the CLS is transformed into real sports performer. With 125 more horsepower, a faster 0 to 60 time, and enhanced performance engineering, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG definitely holds a performance advantage over the base CLS550. However, it costs roughly $25K more. While that’s an expensive price premium, those who highly value sports performance will find it well worth it.

The Audi S8 was the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG’s closest competitor, but it’s been discontinued for the 2010 model year. While car shoppers can probably still find some on dealer lots, it’s less powerful and slower to accelerate than its Benz counterpart. In 2009 it cost roughly the same as the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, but now that it’s no longer in production, car shoppers may be able to land a great deal on the S8.

Performance Dynamics
Test drivers find that the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is powerful, fast and handles exceptionally well for its weight and size.

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is equipped with a 6.3-liter V8 engine that produces 507 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 5,200 rpm. An AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The EPA reports that it nets a city/highway fuel economy of 12/18 mpg.

The rear-wheel drive CLS63 AMG features rack-and-pinion power steering and a sports suspension system with AMG shock absorbers and stabilizers, as well as AIRMATIC DC -- which adjusts air spring tuning to enhance handling dynamics. Also standard is a high-performance AMG braking system with anti-lock brakes and Brake Assist. An Electronic Stability Program (ESP) enhances stability in adverse driving conditions by selectively applying brakes and reducing engine torque.
