Well, I've come across quite a few Defenders. Most examples I come here in Europe don't get my attention having been relegated to the rough life of farmwork or ridiculous modifications. This Defender was something that really caught my eye. It spent most of its life in Switzerland in the hands of a very attentive owner. Despite having been driven almost 300k kilometers it could easily pass for a low mileage diamond in the rough. The body and undercarriage are amazing...no rust, shiny glossy paint, straight and true. The diesel motor starts up easily cold or warm (see video below). The transmission is silky smooth, clutch is strong, 4WD system, low/high and diff locks work with perfection. The 5-speed manual transmission makes it suitable for highway use. Definitely one of the nicest older D90s I have come across in many years.

Three years ago it was brought to it's new owner in Hungary, where it is currently located.

2013 is here, making this Defender 25 years old and finally EPA and DOT exempt for U.S. importation. All vehicles 25 years or older are totally exempt from the draconian safety requirements for newer vehicles and are basically gree-lighted through U.S. customs.
