Introduced in 1968 alongside the standard 500F, the deluxe 500L, while mechanically identical, came with exterior cosmetic enhancements and an improved interior featuring new instrument panel, seats and floor covering. The Fiat 500 traces it's ancestry back to the immortal, prewar “topolino” (Mickey Mouse in Italian) and catered to the same market of cost conscious, pragmatic and fun loving Italians. The twin cylinder engine featured overhead valves, aluminum cylinder heads, air cooled. This was the first such motor used by FIAT and was driven through a four speed gearbox. An immense success for FIAT, almost 3,000,000 of these cars had been sold when production ceased in 1975. The 500 remains as popular today as it ever was. Apart from a Ferrari, no car is more recognizable as classically Italian than the FIAT 500. It is the car that defined Italy during the iconic 'Dolce Vita' period. This left-hand drive 1971 FIAT 500L was acquired out of a Dutch collection and subsequently imported to the United States. This car has undergone a full restoration which was completed in Holland five years ago. This 500 offers an opportunity for a huge amount of enjoyment at relatively little cost.
