1929 Ford Model A Phaeton

History

A phaeton is a style of open car or carriage without weather protection. It is an automotive development of the fast, lightweight phaeton carriage. Originally meant to denote a faster and lighter vehicle than a touring car, the two terms eventually became interchangeable. Phaetons fell from favour when closed cars and convertibles became widely available in the 1930s. Convertibles and pillarless hardtops were marketed as "phaetons" after actual phaetons were phased out.

The Ford Model A of 1928–1931 was the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company, after its predecessor, the Model T. First produced on October 20, 1927, but not sold until December 2, it replaced the venerable Model T, which had been produced for 18 years. The Model A came in a wide variety of styles: Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, Roadster Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Convertible Cabriolet, Convertible Sedan, Phaeton (Standard and Deluxe), Tudor Sedan (Standard and Deluxe), Town Car, Fordor (2-window) (Standard and Deluxe), Fordor (3-window) (Standard and Deluxe), Victoria, Station Wagon, Taxicab, Truck, and Commercial.

This 1929 Ford “Family” street rod came to us from “The Baron”, Laurence Hill Dorcy Estate. A true find for the car enthusiast and a wonderful blast from the past! The looks are old but this car is up to date!

Laurence Hill Dorcy was the great grandson of James J. Hill, “The Empire Builder”, founder of the Great Northern Railway. Hill was reputed to be the 5th richest man in the world when he died. Mr. Dorcy was therefore both very rich and always single. His love for cars began after his grandfather L.W. Hill, died. Mr. Hill never traded in an automobile, so upon his death, 40 cars, all in good condition, were found in his garage. A couple of years later when Mr. Dorcy was 14 years old he was given a choice of 2 cars. He picked this 1929 Ford.

After serving as a pilot in the U.S. Airforce during the Cold War, he started a lifetime of finding, restoring and driving a great variety of vehicles. Restoration was his prime enjoyment and with money being no object, his cars are in wonderful, like new condition. Known amongst his friends as “The Baron”, he held a yearly Father’s Day car show at his beautiful Maui home, open to everyone on the island. This is just one example of the 20 cars he had in his collection.

Vanguard Motor Sales started 25 years ago as a part time hobby. Within the last decade we have become the premier seller of classic and muscle cars, both locally and internationally. Vanguard Motor Sales is an experienced seller with integrity, and our 100% positive feedback on eBay supports that! Click the “eBay Feedback” button on the home page of our website, or the number next to our name on eBay (vanguardmotorsales), and you will be able to read all of the positive feedback we’ve received over the last 10 years!

Our inventory is always stored indoors! We have a brand new, state-of-the-art, 30,000 square foot facility that is open to the public. We would love for you to stop by and see us! We are located 20 minutes away from Detroit Metro Airport, and would be happy to pick you up and drop you off if you fly in. New cars arrive daily, and our inventory is always changing.

Vanguard Motor Sales owns all of our inventory, we are not a consignment dealership. You are dealing directly with the owner of the vehicle, not a middle man. All of our vehicle titles are free of liens, and we are not selling other peoples problems. Every car we purchase is of the utmost quality. Our mission is to exceed your expectations!

If you are interested in this car, or any of our other 100+ cars, don’t wait for the auction to end on eBay. You may loose out if you wait! Our shop is open to the public, and when a walk in customer puts a deposit on a car we reserve the right to close the eBay listing before the auction ends. If you think this car is “The One”, we can end the auction by adding a “But It Now” to the auction for the reserve price. If an auction ends and the bids do not meet the reserve price, we will continue to relist it until it sells. Do not hesitate to contact Tom 7 days a week!

We take over 100 photographs of the car, as well as a high definition video, so you know exactly what to expect. We encourage you to hire an independent inspector to check out the car, prior to purchase or bidding. We have a hoist available for views of the undercarriage, and our mechanics are available to speak with if you have any questions.

Vanguard Motor Sales has sold classic and muscle cars to customers in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, France, Norway, the Netherlands and many other countries. We are experts in over seas shipping, and handle all of the details. The shipping companies we work with are insured, so your vehicle will be safe and secure during transport. We ship all of our vehicles enclosed, so they leave our shop clean and they are delivered to your driveway clean.

We've built our reputation on selling high quality cars honestly and fairly. We have up-front, no haggle pricing! Call Tom today, and let Vanguard Motor Sales park your dream in your driveway!
