1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special

Before we go into the specifics on the car in this ad we would like to give you MissChiTown’s interpretation of the 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special.  When it comes to formal four door cars, Cadillac hit the nail right on the head with the overall design of the Cadillac Fleetwood.  From its limousine style look to its highly toned down tail fin and its angular design this car represents one of the finest post war designs ever put out by Cadillac.  It is a true four door hardtop and is 22 feet long and is heavy enough that it rolls out just about any irregularities or bumps in the road.  It is equipped with the famous Cadillac Hydra-Matic four speed transmission when many other manufacturers of luxury cars were using only 3-speed transmission and some a mere 2-speed transmission.  Remember Chevrolet’s Power Glide has only 2-speeds.

Some say that the 1961 Cadillacs in general and the Fleetwood specifically was the last of the high quality General Motors Cadillac cars.  While Cadillac made a larger engine then the 390 cubic inch engine in the later years that followed, there are those that still feel that the 390 is one of the best engines ever produced by Cadillac and General Motors.  These Cadillac Fleetwoods are truly elegant but not gawdy like the previous generations of the 1959 and 1960 Cadillacs.  The Fleetwoods have the elegance of a limousine but no need for a chauffeur.  We like to think of the 1961 Fleetwood as a short wheel base, owner driver limousine

Here at MissChiTown, one of our key members had a 1961 Cadillac and said that this is the best driving car that you could find in the 1950s or 1960s.  The car was very agile in the city but get it out on the road and you would think you were traveling by train because the ride was so smooth.  Well heeled traveling salesman were known for choosing Cadillacs for their over the road cars as they could travel 10 hours straight and get out of the car and not even be tired.  Try and do that with a Chevrolet or a Ford.

Most all Fleetwoods were equipped with an unbelievable amount of accessories even by today’s standards.  Just take a look at the list, power steering, power brakes, power antenna, four power door locks, four power vent windows, four power side windows, am radio, back up light and of course air conditioning.

Now lets talk about color, in MissChiTown’s opinion there is only one color for a Cadillac Fleetwood and that is black.  The interior that blends best with this color is the black and white which this car is equipped with.  A Fleetwood in top condition are some of the rarest cars a collector can add to a collection.  A set of good Fleetwood hubcaps will sell for $2,500.00.  Fleetwoods are also known for their fine brake system and most Fleetwoods are equipped with fin brakes.  Other then the Cadillac Eldorado convertible the Fleetwood was Cadillacs most expensive car in 1961.

If you want a car that speaks luxury and impresses people wherever you go, look no further!!!  This is a fantastic car to take on tour across country for comfort and convenience.  The 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood is the car to have for the family to travel in true luxury and comfort.

The car in this ad has always been garaged, highly cared for and needs a new caretaker to give it the fine loving care that it has had over the last 50+ years.

The following is information from the owner on this car:

“Uncle Bill” bought the car in 1962 and the seller has a lot of original paper work.  Uncle Bill drove this until he died and his wife continued to drive it after his death.  Upon her death the car dealership that had serviced it all these years wanted to buy the car.  The car was inherited by current seller who is the nephew of Uncle Bill.  The seller has original paperwork that he will be scanning so we can share more information.  Also there are photos of “Uncle Bill” and this car from the 1960s coming.

The seller drives the car once a month to exercise it and keep it in good running condition.  The longest trip he has taken is about 60 miles to a car show.  The thing that he loves about driving the car is all the attention that he gets with the car.  Everybody stops him and asks him questions about the car.

The car has always been very well maintained and ten years ago the current owner decided to repaint the car in the original black because the hood and roof were somewhat faded.  The car is a no rust vehicle.
