Decent Place To Go

Took it in to get my timing belt changed based on the recommendation of a friend of a friend who has been friends with the owner for over ten years. They had it ready for me to pick up the next day. The price wasn`t as cheap as you could get but I`d rather pay a little more knowing I took it to a place that`s trustworthy rather than take a chance on an unknown place (cost was a little over $750, had other minor thing... view mores done along with belt change). I gave it a three because he told me there was a bracket missing for the engine to hold it in place so I brought it back the next day after he got the part in. He put it in in less than a half hour and I came back and asked him how much he was going to charge me for putting it on. He paused, and said twenty, so I handed him a twenty. I didn`t see any paper work though and later on I realized he wasn`t going to charge me anything. It was partly my fault but if he was really honest, he wouldn`t have taken my money (this was the owner by the way) Another time, I took my car in to get it checked on account of an RPM problem and told him I noticed it most on the freeway. Later on, he told me they couldn`t fix it. He said even though he knows there`s a problem (he drove it on the freeway to check), he couldn`t reproduce it on the machine in the shop so he couldn`t fix it. After doing some research of my own, I know now it`s a transmission slip that was happening and read that it is pretty common among automatics. This makes me wonder why he couldn`t check the things associated with a transmission slip (like trans fluid, trans filter etc). If he didn`t know what it was, that makes me nervous because it wasn`t that hard for me to find out on my own what the problem was. It does show honesty that he told me he didn`t know what it was, though.
