1972 Bmw 2002 Base Sedan 2-door 2.0l on 2040-cars
Portland, Oregon, United States
You are bidding on a driver quality restored black on black 1972 BMW 2002. I purchased this car in May of 2012 in Hillsboro OR and have spent the last two years having it professionally restored. I am the third owner of this car. The original owner handed it down to his nephew and I purchased it from that nephew. The car had been stored in the family barn since the late 90’s before I purchased it. So I guess technically it’s a barn find. Since the car had been in storage for the past 12+ years the body was in really great shape with no rust in any of the usual 2002 problem areas, shock towers, floor pans, spare tire well, running boards etc. All are really solid. I’ve included some before and after pictures of some of the common problem areas before they were cleaned and re coated with fresh undercoating to keep them protected. The cars original color was malanga but it was repainted to (schwartz) black back sometime in the 80’s. During the 2 year restoration I had the car taken down to bare metal and re painted this same black. The interior of the car has been reupholstered in black vinyl including front/rear seats and door panels front/rear. The door panels were replaced with Aardvark racing wooden panels before they were reupholstered. As far as I can tell the carpet is original. If so it’s in incredible shape. Beyond the restoration the following upgrades have been performed: BMW OEM BBS wheels, BMW OEM Sport Recaro seats, New Weber 32/26 carburetor, flush European turn signals and Hella driving lights. Here is a high level overview of the work performed during the restoration, detailed work below. Bare metal repaint in Fall 2013 All receipts for this work will go with the car. The car runs well and the engine pulls strong. It handles well and stops just as well. After all the mechanical work I would expect nothing less. Paint is a 9/10, interior 9/10, mechanical 9/10, chrome 8/10 (some of the chrome, drip rail, window trim has a few scratches), engine bay 7/10 (mechanically sound just could use detailing). The engine has approximately 1000 miles on the rebuild. The engine rebuild included the following: New pistons While the engine was out the following was done: New transmission mounts The brakes were professionally rebuilt including: New brake hoses at all four
corners The front suspension was professionally rebuilt including: New front control arms. The previous owner had performed the following work before I purchased the car: New steering guibo The body includes the following: New Ireland Engineering front
spoiler In addition to everything listed
above the following has been replaced. Clean Title in hand. Enjoy this car as a daily driver or keep it for the weekends and car shows. Buyer to pay for shipping from Portland OR or local pickup. I do require a 500$ deposit within 72 hours of close of auction. |

BMW stripes up X6 M Design Edition
Tue, 24 Sep 2013There's something that makes red, dark blue and light blue stripes running up the fenders and down the flanks of a white car just that much more eye-catching. Whether it's a Martini Racing liveried racecar or something from the BMW skunkworks, they just draw long looks nothing else can. And here's the latest.
The BMW X6 M Design Edition upgrades on the standard X6 M with such special touches as 21-inch alloys, a carbon front splitter and rear splitter, black grilles and diffusor, and of course, those iconic racing stripes, which come as an option on this model.
The interior has been done up in black leather with Mugello red accents and piano black trim. Only 100 individually-numbered examples will be offered, and given that this one's wearing German plates, we doubt there's much chance many (if any) will make it Stateside. But then again, you could always spec up your own X6 M with most if not all of the same trim and forgo the little number plate on the dashboard.
Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes
Mon, 28 Jul 2014Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.
2013 Dinan S3 BMW 550i
Thu, 30 May 2013Steve Dinan has been enhancing BMW models since 1979. But don't throw his company into the ring with the dozen or so other tuners who tweak, tinker and piggyback upgrades on the famed German marque. Dinan is a tuner, but it's also an engineering firm that writes its own software, builds its own parts and then backs everything it does with a factory-grade warranty. That sort of fastidiousness comes at a price, but most of its customers - including the powerhouse of BMW Motorsport - rely on Dinan to help them come out on top.
In stock form, BMW's 550i is a formidable four-door with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 rated at 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. While those figures allow it to run with quick company (0-60 in 5.0 seconds, according to the automaker), Dinan puts the sedan's kettle on full boil with its S3 package. Starting with the engine, the performance engineering firm bolts on larger turbochargers, air-to-water intercoolers, a trick strut tower brace cold air intake, a quad-pipe free flow exhaust and its own engine management software. Pump in some premium fuel, and the result is 542 horsepower and 587 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent through the stock eight-speed automatic to a limited slip rear differential (Dinan will upgrade xDrive all-wheel drive models, too).
The Dinan S3 also features and extensive suspension upgrade that includes new front camber arms and low compliance rear control arms (engineered to reduce understeer and improve turn-in). The stock dampers are retained, but new bump stops are installed along with new springs. Overall, the car rides about a half-inch lower than stock to improve roll rate. To reduce unsprung weight, forged 20-inch HRE Performance wheels are fitted at all four corners (wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires - 275/35ZR20 up front and 295/35ZR20 in the rear). Lastly, the company remaps the factory Electronic Damper Control (EDC) software with its own Dinan Shockware to work in conjunction with the new enhancements.
