Rare 1993 BMW 850ci for sale. Awesome vehicle! Great color combination - Black on Black.Just did all 4 rotors and pads. Car runs great! It is my daily driver. I've been driving it everyday and intended to restore it but another vehicle opportunity has come up. If you know these cars there's not much to say. It is extremely smooth and heavy riding car. As you can see in pics, I have a 645ci as well and this 850 drives much heavier and smoother. You can't beat that massive 12 cyclinder engine in front of you. The vehicle needs some minor work. The paint is not nearly as good as the pics show. It is peeling clearcoat and has 7 or 8 minor small dings in both doors. The AC control panel has pushed in, AC does not blow cold. Headlights pop up quickly and perfectly. Everything works!  Except the sunroof. Classic problem - water gets in between the panel weatherstripping causing it to rust and expand making it impossible for roof to close all the way. The headliner is also drooping. I was going to tackle these two problems at the same time. It requires removing headliner, remoce sunroof panel, replace weatherstripping and maybe tracks and re-installing. Not the most difficult project but definitely time consuming.

It comes with the chrome BMW wheels in photo. Not the ones that are on it now. I really don't want to sell it! I love this car and it's so close to being done. Like I said above, it needs sunroof and headliner repaired and a nice paint job. The car is mechanically great. I put a white sheet under it after I bought it and not a drop of anything was on it after 2 days. These cars are becoming extremely hard to find - especially the 12 cylinders! Good luck bidding! And yes, the 645ci is for sale too!!!

Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.

Volkswagen Group, BMW Z4 top Total Value Awards by Strategic Vision

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

It was just nine months ago that Strategic Vision announced its 2011 Total Value Awards, but you don't have to wait until next year for the 2012 awards. The Volkswagen Group keeps its lead as the number one brand, with seven products taking top category spots: Golf, Jetta Wagon, CC, Eos and Audi A3 Wagon, Q5 and Q7. Strategic Vision says "true innovation" - "rich and impactful, intuitive, motivational, in-depth and is able to trigger description by the user in great specificity" - is the open secret of the brands with the strongest showings. Results are culled from 77,153 owners covering more than 350 new cars bought between September of 2011 and 2012 ranked in the Total Value Index (TVI).
Other notable winners are Hyundai-Kia following VW in the brand category and having the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Sorento among category winners, the BMW Z4 taking the premium roadster category and the highest overall score of any vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt continuing to gather silverware in the Special Category, nabbing the second-highest score of all and representative of "nearly perfect innovation," and Chrysler and Dodge being most improved.
Check out the press release below for your day's dose of jargon and all the winners.

A Tasty Bit Of Old School For The New School
Against the backdrop of fervent hand-wringing from brand purists, BMW is on the cusp of finally offering front-wheel-drive vehicles. While that's a shock to the constitution, many are pointing to the company's fine-handling Mini offerings as an article of faith that it can get this drivetrain paradigm shift right. That may be true, but there's an even more important lesson that Mini has taught the decision-makers in Munich: how to make real money on small cars.
Before Mini came along, BMW - along with seemingly every other premium European automaker - never really figured out how to coax big dollars out of American wallets without developing cars that had large footprints, at least those other than sports cars. While the automaker really got rolling in America on the strength of little bantamweights like the 2002, it veered away from small cars sometime in the '80s. BMW subsequently crashed and burned with the cut-and-shut 318ti built off its E36 3 Series and, good as it is, the 1 Series hasn't given the company meaty volume or profits, either. Among other brands, the Audi A3 has never rung up big numbers, and the less said about the painful sales figures of the Volvo C30, the better. But Mini has beat the odds, blazing a more affordable and evidently compelling trail. As of late, the company's Countryman softroader has been a massive hit worldwide. No surprise then that BMW has reconsidered bringing over its smallest softroader, the X1, to the US.
