Up for sale is my 2003 BMW M3. This M3 has 177,xxx miles on it and features the SMGII transmission. The motor runs very strong and has never given me an issue. In the 2 years that I've owned the vehicle, oil has been changed at 7,500 mile intervals (half of the factory recommendation) and has received schedule 2 maintenance in the last 15,000 miles.

FCABs have been replaced with OEM units and RTABs replaced with Rogue Engineering black units to stiffen up the rear slightly; replaced at the same time with <15,000 miles on them.

About a year ago I had Agency Power headers fitted on the car and the stock pipes removed. This car has NO catalytic converters, and the rear O2 sensors are not installed. Section 1 and 2 of the exhaust are the OEM units, and the rear muffler was replaced shortly after I purchased the vehicle with an Eisenmann Race 4x83mm piece with perforated tips. There is a slight exhaust rattle at idle that goes away under load; I simply haven't taken the time to replace the worn factory hangers.

For the past two winters I have used Plasti-Dip to protect the 18'' OEM wheels from the elements. Underneath they are in ok condition, showing curb rash from the previous owner. Interior shows wear typical of a vehicle with this age. The leather is in overall good condition with some wear in the bottom of the front seats and a tear in the driver's side bolster (please see photos). The stock Titanium trim was also wrapped in 3M titanium vinyl by a previous owner and is showing some wear, but overall in ok condition. I also had the newest Dynavin installed to replace the factory navigation unit that had a cracked screen when I purchased the vehicle. It accepts a 30 pin iPod/iPhone connection in the glove box. The sound system is standard, save the addition of a 10'' JL Audio W6 in the trunk to fill out the bass frequencies that the stock speakers just couldn't provide. I have also installed larger, easier to use aluminum SMG paddles behind the steering wheel.

Since I've owned the vehicle it has been in two accidents. One was a very minor rear-end collision that had the rear bumper replaced with a new piece, and the other the driver's side quarter panel was hit in a parking lot. Both repaired professionally by a local body shop and were purely cosmetic; the performance of the car hasn't changed.

The reason for sale is my job requires me to travel quite a bit, and driving the M3 just isn't economical for me anymore. I'm looking to move to something a little more calm with fewer miles and better fuel mileage. Also, the past week it has blown two SMG relays and I don't have the time to track down the issue. Replacing the relay fixes the problem for a while before it happens again. My assumption is either a wiring issue near the transmission, or the hydraulic pump is on the way out--my reserve price reflects this, as I'm not 100% sure of the issue myself. The car currently runs and drives with NO issues, but should be addressed by the buyer.

Any questions may be forwarded to me here and I will answer in a timely fashion. I'm also happy to attach more photos in an email upon request. The car is currently located in Middle Tennessee. Any shipping will need to be arranged by the buyer, as I cannot provide this service for you.

Edit for some things I forgot to include in my original listing:

The car is due for an oil change (by my standards, anyway) in about 3,000 miles. I already own the full kit to do so and will include 6 liters of 10W-60, an oil filter, drain plug and all necessary gaskets with seal. I also had a new fuel pump installed about 5,000 miles ago as preventative maintenance, and my mechanic had a spare fuel level sending unit that he let me take with me that I will also include with the sale. The vehicle is still my daily driver, but is currently sitting until auction end. If there is anything I haven't addressed, please let me know!

Company car offers in decline, but not at The Cheesecake Factory [w/poll]

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

As businesses look to keep high-level employees happy, it seems that use of company cars can still be an effective method, although fewer companies are employing it. According to Businessweek, only about 25 percent of companies offer company vehicles as a perk, while less than half give allowances for employees to use their personal vehicles for work purposes.
The report says that one business still in the practice of handing out company cars is The Cheesecake Factory, which offers the benefit to top managers. And we're not talking about some econobox, either. The article indicates the restaurant chain hands out BMWs on a three-year basis - although the company's own report says that the type of vehicle "varies with the executive's level."
Still, we mostly agree with the article's conclusion that money is the best way to keep employees or attract new ones, even if a corporate car is a big perk. What do you think? Let us know, in the poll below, whether a company car could sway you to work for a certain company (not just the Cheesecake factory, where the "Glamburgers" portion of the menu alone is enough to keep a guy hanging around).

BMW predicts US will be biggest i8 market

Sat, 10 Aug 2013

BMW will be showing a production version of its new i8 plug-in hybrid supercar at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, and while we're quite excited about seeing the company's second i product in the flesh. According to a new report from Automotive News Europe, BMW is expecting its largest markets to be the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. Notable for its absence in that list is everybody's favorite mega-market, China.
Automobilwoche, a German-language publication of Automotive News Europe, spoke with the i8's product manager, Hendrik Wenders, who declared, "The US will be by far the largest sales market for the i8." Wenders stops short of actual mentioning what percentage of i8 sales will be in the US, but does mention that it should arrive in showrooms around the world in about nine months. The simultaneous rollout will occur in 50 different countries.
Check back for our full coverage of the i8's debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. If you just can't wait until September, then check out our first drive of the i8 Prototype.
