This is a spectacular and incomparable resto-mod version of a rare classic that offers a unique blend of luxury and exhilarating performance.  It is a 2 owner car that was purchased in 1993 from the original owner, who gave it only the best of care and kept meticulous records throughout his ownership (Protect-O-Plate, window sticker and dealer invoice come with car).  It is equipped with every available option except cruise control, and even has a specially ordered front bench seat and cornering lights.  Of the 50,000 Rivieras made in 1969, only about 10%, or 5,000, were ordered with the GS option, which included a heavy duty suspension, performance axle (3.42) and posi-traction.  The original 430ci engine has been replaced with a 455ci Buick engine that produces 507HP/540 ft-lbs of torque and runs on 93 octane gas.

Modifications to the engine include the following:

·         Block bored .030 over to 462ci (10.5:1 compression)

·         Stage II aluminum heads (ported & polished)

·         850 CFM Quik Fuel carb revamped by Gary Williams

·         TA 290H performance cam (.508”/.525” lift & .238/.290 duration)

·         Front disc brakes w/ electric booster

·         Air Ride Technologies air ride suspension

·         Retractable headlights operated by electric linear motors

·         Keyless entry & alarm system

·         “Star Wars” air cleaner included ($1000  value)

Body/Paint/Interior/Wheels/Tires:

·         The rust-free and laser-straight body is finished in PPG “Cool Vanilla.”  The top material is BMW convertible canvas, which provides both an elegant and decidedly refined appearance.

·         Excellent stainless, chrome & glass

·         Shaved door handles/locks

·         Custom interior by “Stitches”

·         “MOZ” 3-piece wheels (20”F/22”R)

GM SUV window switch recall urges owners to park vehicles outside

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

It's not unusual for there to be a lag between an automaker announcing a recall and the official documentation showing up on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. So it's no surprise that a recent GM campaign took about a month to appear in its official capacity. However, there appears to be some big differences between the two reports with potential safety implications.
In late June, GM announced that it needed to recall 181,984 examples of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7x from the 2005-2007 model years, plus the 2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT and 2006 GMC Envoy XL. The new documents paint a slightly different picture with 184,611 needing repaired and different model years listed.
The reason for the fix is still the same, though. It's possible for fluid to contact the master power window switch module in the driver's door, which can corrode the part. Eventually this could cause a short circuit, leaving the buttons inoperable and potentially leading to a fire. But the new NHTSA documents add an important note: "A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made."

GM recalling 1.5M cars in China for faulty bracket

Fri, 27 Dec 2013

General Motors and its Chinese partners have announced their second recall in the People's Republic this year, following a 2,653-unit recall of the Cadillac SRX earlier this year. This latest recall affects nearly 1.5 million cars built between 2006 and 2012. It's not explicitly stated, but as there's no movement from the US NHTSA, we suspect that the cars in question were all Chinese-built rather than imports.
The vast majority of the affected vehicles are Buick Excelles (pictured), with 1.2 million units being recalled over a faulty bracket that's meant to secure the fuel pump. The Excelles in question were built between 2006 and 2012, while an additional 250,000 Chevrolet Sail superminis, built between April 2009 and October 2011, are being recalled for a similar reason.
According to the PRC's Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the faulty bracket could crack and potentially cause a fuel leak.

Opel Insignia OPC Sports Tourer shows its fresh face ahead of Frankfurt debut

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Drive down the Autobahn and there's any number of vehicles likely to pass you, and most of them are produced locally. But if you're wondering how that Opel left you in its dust, look closely (and quickly) enough and you might make out the letters OPC on the back.
They stand for Opel Performance Center (the German counterpart to Vauxhall's VXR line) and they adorn performance versions of the Corsa, Astra and Insignia. The latter is undergoing a bit of a refresh and is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a couple of weeks, but you don't have to wait that long as our intrepid spy photographers have caught it in the flesh outside an Opel facility in Germany.
Spied here completely undisguised in Sports Tourer (read: wagon) form, the Insignia has had a few nips and tucks performed, but we'll be more intrigued to see what it's got under the hood. The current model packs a 2.8-liter twin-turbo V6 driving 325 horsepower to all four wheels, but rumors suggest that the OPC (yeah you know me!) could have as much as 400 hp up its sleeve. That would make this one heck of a sleeper - especially in wagon form - and only make us pine for a more potent version of its twin Buick Regal to roam our highways, too.
