1989 Cadillac Allante Project on 2040-cars

Year:1989 Mileage:227000
Location:

Sanford, Maine, United States

Up for auction is this 1989 Cadillac Allante Convertible with removable hard top. 4.5 LTR V-8, auto  fully loaded. Pearl white with burgandy leather interior. It has a little over 220 thousand miles. Body is in nice shape with the exception of a ding on the hood and a small dent on the bottom front of the drivers door. Here is the story. A friend of ours purchased this car in early 2003 for his wifes personal driver. She drove it regularly in the good months up until late 2009. She needed a car with more room so she bought a Lincoln and put this car up. We recently aquired this car in a trade. Battery was low so we jumped the car and drove it home. The only thing we noticed was the brakes were a little hard when applied and we figured it was from just sitting so long without use. Planned on going thru it anyway. Motor ran great, trans shifted fine, car handled nice. We let the car sit for aprox a month, brought it in the garage to install a new battery, do a tune up and clean the car. I figured this would be a good spring and summer driver. Then the nightmare began. We installed the new battery, cleaned the car, went to drive it out and it started but only ran for about 10 seconds. On the second try it almost started but acted like it was out of fuel. I didnt bother with it until the next day. It started instantly, ran for the 10 seconds and wouldnt start again. I figured maybe the fuel pump was acting up or the fuel guage wasnt right. So the next day I put a couple of gallons of fuel in, jacked up the car to tap on the fuel tank to try to jar the fuel pump to kick in. Went to turn the car over and it wouldnt. All lights came on etc but no turn over. I had my son in law come over that night to try and diagnose the problem. He jumped the starter wires and the starter turns over fine, just not turning by the key which worked all the other times until now. He tested all the relays he could find and they checked out ok. He checked the fuse panel in the console and that was fine. He said there were bigger fuses in the trunk area but the key doesnt work the trunk and the power button isnt working for the release. He figures it could be a relay to the starter but doesnt know where its located. Also could be theft deterient lock out. All I know is I dont have time or the patience to deal with this. I got a lot more money in the car then I should so I am going to sell it as is with no reserve and take my lumps. If you are handy at electrical problems or dealing with issues like this then go for it. Only bid if your willing to follow through with the sale. Expect greater differentiation in GM's next-generation SUVs

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

General Motors says its next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade models will offer shoppers improved interior differentiation. Car and Driver recently caught up with Chris Hilts, GM's creative manager of interior design, who said that the cabins will all feature unique instrument panels, consoles, center stacks and switchgear moving forward. Apparently GM is now aware that consumers may be bothered by the fact that today's $85,000 Escalade has effectively the same cabin as a $45,000 Tahoe. Hilts says SUV buyers want more refinement than their pickup purchasing counterparts - and those same buyers also want their SUVs to have more exterior differentiation between the company's Silverado and Sierra pickup lines. Shocking.
That all sounds good to us, but we've heard this song and dance before. GM made big waves about how different the new-for-2013 Silverado and Sierra would look from each other, but judging by what we've seen so far, GM's stylists are painting in shades rather than with the full spectrum. Autoweek divulges details on Presidential limo

Tue, 22 Oct 2013

Ever since the latest presidential limousine, also known as The Beast, debuted in 2009, we've wondered what's underneath that black Cadillac body. We already know a few details, like the fact it isn't a Cadillac at all, but a very heavy duty truck chassis from General Motors with a body that resembles a super-sized Caddy. Autoweek, however, has managed to extract new details from veteran Secret Service agents about the closely guarded presidential limo. Their methods, of course, are classified.
Designed to be a rolling office, bunker and escape pod all in one, the current presidential limo is far different from previous presidential state cars, which were heavily modified production vehicles. As we would expect, The Beast uses thick, military-grade body armor (eight inches on the doors), an armored fuel tank, special run-flat tires with Kevlar lining, an encrypted satellite phone, a fully sealed cabin with its own oxygen supply and a trunk full of weapons and medical equipment that includes a supply of the President's blood type (in case the car gets cut off from the ambulance that's always present in the President's motorcade).
The Beast also comes with a Halon fire-suppression system, night vision and is powered by a V8 engine, which we already knew runs on gas and not diesel, that returns an EPA-unfriendly estimated 3.7 miles per gallon. The Secret Service operates a fleet of 12 limos and each Beast costs $1.5 million. Lastly, AW estimates that the 18-foot-long state car weighs 15,000 pounds, and each Secret Service agent that drives the car must be specially trained to maneuver such a massive vehicle.

GM recalling 524k vehicles over hood latches and toe link nuts

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

Just hours after confirming to Autoblog its intention to recall 97,540 vehicles in the US (117,651 in North America) for a possible manufacturing defect in the chassis control module of several models, General Motors is issuing two more campaigns that affect another 379,401 units in the US (524,384 in North America).
One campaign covers 290,107 US examples of the 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X because the "rear toe link adjuster lock nuts" may be improperly torqued. If not up to spec, the toe adjuster link could separate and allow the wheel to shift while driving, making the handling unstable. GM says that it knows of three crashes and two injuries as a result of this problem. Dealers are inspecting the nuts and installing a new link assembly, if necessary. Autoblog first reported about this potential issue when it showed up on a list of recalls from Transport Canada.
The second recall is for 89,294 examples of the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark in the US manufactured from January 17, 2012, through July 29, 2014. According to GM, "corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position." If this happens, and the primary latch also isn't engaged for some reason, the hood could fly open while driving. About 13,000 of these affected Sparks are at dealers and are being held until repaired. The fix requires replacing the hood striker. GM isn't aware of crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this problem.
