If you're a driving enthusiast, you owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Ford Mustang. Once that pony car hit the
market in 1964, affordable and stylish performance was finally in reach for the average American. Even though early
versions weren't exceptionally fast, it didn't take long for Ford to pump the car up with some real muscle. Shortly
after the first 'Stang hit the streets,
Only a few thousand of the original Ford Shelby GT500s were built from 1967-'70, and they've remained very popular
with Mustang enthusiasts and collectors. As expected, the modern version is obviously a much better car in terms of
comfort and overall performance. However, potential buyers of the modern-era GT500 should know that the first few
years of the car were let down by disappointing handling capabilities. Newer GT500s are much more appealing by
virtue of revised suspension tuning and massively more powerful engines.
Current Ford Shelby GT500
The Ford Shelby GT500 is the ultimate performance version of the Mustang and is available in both coupe and
convertible body styles. As the top horse in the stable, it boasts a number of significant upgrades. Chief among
them is an all-aluminum, supercharged 5.8-liter V8 that cranks out 662 horsepower and gives the coupe a top speed
of more than 200 mph (the convertible is electronically limited to 155 mph). That powerhouse is hooked up to a
six-speed manual gearbox and spins the rear tires through a limited-slip solid rear axle. There is also an
adjustable launch control system (allows the driver to select preferred launch rpm) as well as adjustable steering
assist.
Standard feature highlights for the GT500 include 19-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, xenon headlights, leather
sport bucket seats, the Sync multimedia voice-control system and an audio system with a CD player, auxiliary/USB
audio jacks and satellite radio.
Option highlights include a glass roof for the coupe, a navigation system (with HD radio and dual-zone climate
control), an upgraded sound system and a handful of performance packages (should a standard GT500 somehow be
lacking). The latter include such ultra-performance hardware as adjustable Bilstein dampers, even larger Brembo
brakes and separate engine oil, rear differential and transmission cooling systems.
In reviews we've been impressed by this Shelby GT500's incredible performance potential, precise gearbox, crisp
steering response, agile handling, fairly comfortable ride and solid cabin quality. Also making this supercar an
agreeable daily driver are its supportive seats and thoughtful features such as the Sync system and
hard-drive-based navigation system.
Used Ford Shelby GT500 Models
The reincarnated Shelby GT500 debuted for 2007. At the time, its supercharged 5.4-liter V8 had an iron block and
produced 500 hp. Standard front-seat side airbags and optional xenon headlights arrived the following year.

Ford Fiesta ST orders off to strong start

Fri, 17 May 2013

We at Autoblog love the new little Ford Fiesta ST, and apparently, folks in Europe are pretty impressed with it, as well. According to Ford, the automaker's European arm has already logged 3,000 orders for the new hot hatch since it hit dealerships this March. The US-spec car, which will only be available as a five-door, will go on sale in the United States this summer.
What's perhaps most interesting about the Fiesta ST ordering is that the majority of customers appear to be ordering high-spec cars. According to Ford data, 60 percent of customers have opted for the leather interior with Recaro buckets, and 90 percent have selected the upgraded 17-inch wheels (seen on our test car, above). Spirit Blue has been the most popular color, commanding 27 percent of all orders. As for the technology upgrades, 19 percent of customers have ponied up for the Sony stereo with navigation.
To recap, the Fiesta ST is offered with Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, putting out 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. We had an absolute blast flinging the hot Fiesta through the French Alps, and we can't wait for this sharp little hatch to make its way over to the States.

Ford C-Max spied with fresh updates

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

The Ford C-Max hatchback looks to be getting a few cosmetic updates, as evidenced in this latest set of spy photos. Like the smaller Focus, which also received a nip/tuck for the 2015 model year, the C-Max appears to be getting a revised front fascia with slimmer headlamps and a more, shall we say, Aston Martin-like grille. Around back, there looks to be a new bumper with redesigned taillamps, as well.
In other markets, the C-Max people-mover is available with a range of powertrains, but here in the US, it exists either as a traditional gas-electric or plug-in hybrid. The C-Max's fuel economy has been a particular topic of interest lately, with its official fuel economy ratings having been lowered twice since the vehicle's launch. Sales initially suffered a bit following this fiasco, though numbers have since leveled out. It's unclear if Ford is working on any powertrain tweaks for the updated C-Max seen here, however.
Ford has likely spruced up the hatch's interior, as well, though we don't have photos of that at this time. Mum's the word on when we'll see the new C-Max, but our best guess is that it'll arrive sometime in the next year.

Ford Focus refresh shots leak ahead of Geneva

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

In case you haven't been paying attention, Ford has been gradually redesigning its lineup to sport a familiar face. The Aston Martin-inspired grille shape debuted on the Fusion and was soon applied to the Fiesta. Even the front end of the new Mustang takes its cues from the same, and we're sure other models will soon be made-over to fall in line. The next on the docket? The Focus.
Set to be unveiled in little over a week at the Geneva Motor Show, the revised Focus has leaked out a tad early, revealing a mild facelift that bears that same trapezoidal grille with horizontal slats. Along with the new grille, the headlights, lower fascia and hood appear to have been reshaped. Around back there appears to be a new rear bumper and taillights, but otherwise the shape remains largely the same as the current model.
Expect the updates to be applied to all bodystyles offered around the world, including the hatchback, wagon and sedan. The engine lineup is expected to carry over largely unchanged, though the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the C-Max Energi could port over to the revised Focus. Plus Ford seems to have taken the opportunity to spruce things up in the cabin some. Check it out in the image gallery above and watch this space for the official announcement as we pack our bags for Switzerland.
