After a 40 year absence, a bright red Ford, just like the showroom-fresh gem you see here, was picked to pace the 2010 edition of NASCAR’s Great American Race. Ford was so excited with the announcement that they decided to release a limited run of 2011 Mustang Pace Car replicas. And this coupe, number 49 of only 50 produced, is equipped with the same 412 horsepower V8, slick 6-speed transmission and pack-leading appearance as its original Daytona muse. The car’s super straight body displays a glossy coat of Ford Race Red that, based on its smooth appearance, has never been driven in rain, parked under inclement skies or seen much time outside of a building at all. And that bright red pigment lays the ground work for a blanket of professional pace car decals which are tastefully unique and equally interesting. Of course this garage-fresh Mustang presents well, but the car’s biggest selling point is what’s under its sculpted hood. Looking completely sanitary between body-matched fenders and an insulated firewall is a state of the art 5.0 liter Ford ‘mod motor’ that’s rated at a pavement scorching 412 horsepower and a hefty 390 lb./ft. of torque. Behind that engine, there’s a slick-shifting Getrag 6-speed that twists an optional 3.73 limited slip rear end. Since the original pace car’s chassis had to be tuned for speed and steeply banked turns, this production version combines new electronic power steering with a few Ford Racing components to achieve better handling characteristics. And, in an appeal to both the car’s aggressive image and great track prowess, massive 19-inch alloy wheels were covered in slick graphite paint and mounted to high quality 245/45 Pirelli P Zero Neros. There’s no question this Mustang mixes instant collect ability with some seriously threatening performance hardware.

Ford talking unibody Ranger replacement
Mon, 18 Feb 2013Now here's some welcome news. Car and Driver reports Ford is seriously mulling a replacement for the recently deceased Ranger, but the successor to the compact pickup's throne may not look anything like what we've seen from the nameplate in the past.
While speaking at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Doug Scott, marketing manager for Ford Trucks, said there's still a market for a smaller pickup, but that buyers expect to see a larger differentiation between the smaller utility vehicles and their full size counterparts in price, capability and fuel economy.
According to Scott, that means a vehicle with a payload capacity of around 1,000 pounds paired with a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds and "a dramatic reduction in fuel consumption." But the biggest piece of that recipe is the price tag, and Scott says to keep the MSRP far enough away from the already cheap F-150, the answer could come in the form of a unibody design. Scott says target customers in this market don't care whether the truck has a traditional frame or not, so long as it's tough enough to do the job and has the capability they need.

Wed, 30 Apr 2014For reasons we can't comprehend, here's a music video starring the all-new, 2015 Ford Mustang and a number of dancers dressed and styled in the most stereotypically 1980s way possible. The dancers then take part in a male-versus-female dance off. Again, we've no idea why it exists.
It's weird, and for the second time in two weeks, we're sat at our computer wondering, "What are we watching?" That said, it does show the new Mustang from a number of angles, and it's one of the first car-related YouTube videos we've seen that's available in a 4K, ultra-high-def stream.

Ford Fiesta ST customs get wild at SEMA
Tue, 05 Nov 2013The massive 57-car SEMA showcase by Ford ranges from obvious aftermarket-friendly models like the Mustang, to the not so obvious ones, like the Transit Connect and cute-as-an-explosive-button Fiesta ST. Ford plucked several Fiesta STs for SEMA duty, and we were on the show floor today to get a closer look at some of them.
First up is the striking COBB Tuning and Tanner Foust Racing Fiesta ST (above) finished in a black-and-gray digital camouflage, much like that used in the military, and is meant to raise awareness for the Pat Tillman Foundation. COBB also fitted a three-inch exhaust and a cold-air intake. A new shift knob, carbon-fiber hood and a Kicker stereo round out the mix of upgrades.
MRT got its hands on a Fiesta ST and created a car inspired by Forza Motorsport 5 (below, left). Featuring a two-tone paint job and more performance upgrades than you can shake a stick at, this Fiesta ST is one of the cooler compacts at Ford's stand. A high-performance exhaust system, along with a complimentary COBB induction system, allows the ST to breathe better, while an H&R coil over suspension and Steeda brakes help it stop and turn better than stock.
