TEN (10) DAY AUCTION WITH OPENENING BID AT $2,500.00.  I AM A FAN OF TRADITIONAL AUCTIONS; THEREFORE THIS LISTING HAS NO RESERVE.  HAPPY BIDDING!

ABOUT LINCOLN'S MADE IN 1979:

1979 was the last year of the production of large, over-stated personal luxury vehicles.  Emissions laws effective in 1980 required better fuel economy and air pollution standards.  The 1979 Mark X certainly went out with a bang.  Lincoln also celebrated their Diamond Jubilee in 1979, therefore this is a rare edition vehicle, in excellent condition with low mileage.

HISTORY:

This super-clean and super-sweet car has enjoyed a single owner and has always been garaged.  Very well maintained, the interior and exterior wear and tear is consistent with the original 34,799 miles.  This car was donated to the local Meals on Wheels program as part of an estate donation.  I was able to speak to the donor, who informed me this was his Mother's car, and that she had just passed away.  It took me about two (2) weeks to be comfortable driving this car.  I have always driven large vintage cars, but this car is so long and wide, the hood so long and the steering so precise that I found myself overcorrecting.  I am now an expert!  This car was recently driven on an 800 mile round trip to Omaha, NE.  This was the best road trip I have ever had.  The car sailed down the highway as if it were meant to fly.  Very comfortable, with velvet smooth three-speed transmission.  The engine on this car is extremely reliable and I would drive this car anywhere with little worry.  A cold start and the engine revs right up.  Warm start is a little tricky - these older gas engines can "flood" themselves if you are unfamiliar with older cars.  I have now mastered the warm start too!  This car has been detailed and looks absolutely amazing.

EXTERIOR:

This 1979 Lincoln Mark V Continental is laser straight and in overall excellent condition.  Brilliant gold on gold (Diamond Jubilee edition) original paint with subtle burgundy pin-striping.  Stunning chrome trim, bumpers and Rolls Royce style grille.  Mint vinyl half-top roof and gleaming windows.  Rear opera windows have engraved Lincoln logo, with many other design features that are unique and over-stated.  This car is not for someone shy.  You will get compliments on it everywhere you go.  A real conversation piece.

INTERIOR:

Ivory, beige and brown interior.  The velvet upholstery (split-bench front with individual armrests) is in superb condition and the carpet and original floor mats are mint.  Overall vinyl is beautiful and the dash is mint with no cracks.  Interior mirrors and lights in superb condition with an elegant lighting design (see nighttime photos).  Cartier clock on driver’s side dash.  Impressive interior space (this is a very large car to be a coupe).  Also includes original full floor (front and back) protective/decorative vinyl mats.  These mats were used by the original owner since new.  When I removed them, I discovered the pristine carpet and mats in mint condition.

Lincoln Navigator facelift only has to last until 2016 replacement

Thu, 21 Aug 2014

The Navigator is not only Lincoln's longest-serving nameplate - dating back to 1998 when the final Town Car was introduced - but it's also the oldest model still in the brand's portfolio. The current Navigator arrived on the market in 2007, and underwent a refresh just a few months ago for the 2015 model year. The updates were subtle, but if you're waiting for an all-new model, it's just a couple of years down the road.
According to Automotive News, Lincoln is already working on an all-new replacement for the current, long-serving Navigator, which will be revealed two years from now in the middle of 2016 as a 2017 model. At that point, we're expecting it could switch (alongside the Expedition) to the new aluminum architecture introduced on the Ford F-150, seeing as how the current model is based on the old F-150.
In the meantime, the refreshed Navigator ditches the big 5.4-liter Triton V8 in favor of a more economical 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and wages war in two wheelbase lengths against the V8-powered competition in the form of the Cadillac Escalade (and Escalade ESV), the Land Cruiser-based Lexus LX and the Infiniti QX80, which is based on the overseas Nissan Patrol.

Never mind the naysayers; Lincoln is worth saving

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

In the case of Henry Leland, naming his new car brand after the first President he cast a vote for in 1864 seemed a jolly good idea, on paper.
You should always be careful about the name you choose to give your new baby. The power of association can work in many ways, not always positive.

Ford recalls 83k Taurus and crossover models for halfshaft issue

Fri, 15 Aug 2014

Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for some 83,250 vehicles in the US, for an issue with halfshafts. More specifically a "halfshaft retention circlip" might not have been properly installed on affected vehicles, with the result being halfshafts that may move improperly or disengage completely from the linkshaft while driving. The NHTSA release also notes that the issue may occur "without prior warning" which obviously factors in to the timeliness of getting this checked.
Should the halfshaft disengage, a few troubling things could happen. If it occurs while driving, power from the engine will no longer be transmitted to the wheels. And, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied after disengagement of the circlip, vehicles may roll away even if they're transmissions have been placed in "Park."
Affected vehicles are as follows: Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from model years 2012 to 2014; Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans from model years 2013 to 2014; Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles from model years 2013 to 2014.
