* 5 DAY AUCTION AT NO RESERVE  -  SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER *

Up for auction is an original & very well documented 1973 Mercedes Benz 280SE 4.5 Sedan. Remains in Survivor Condition with only 060,371 actual miles. All original paperwork from the dealer including a paper trail of service records proving the mileage to be accurate.

It was purchased new in Hollywood,California off of Sunset Blvd on November 11, 1972. Ray Kohw ( First lady owner ) lived in Los Angeles & kept it garaged always. She kept it maintained regularly thru the local Beverly Hills Mercedes dealer. She passed away in 1998 and left it to her niece in the will. Her niece's husband works at a Mercedes Dealer as a Technical Performance Specialist. The original owner, Ray felt comfortable leaving to her niece knowing her husband would take good care of it. The 2nd owners registered the Mercedes in May of 1998. The family members lived in Los Angeles as well. They drove it occasionally thru out the next decade, taking care of it as her aunt did. They barley put any miles on it since it was in there possession, 6k miles approximately.

Fully documented including the protec-o-plate / owner's manual / owner's service and warranty policy booklet / maintenance booklet / Mercedes Directory / catalog / Becker radio w/keys / original sleeve

I have service records from each decade till present years proving the mileage to be correct. Also, notes from both owners as well as a memo booklet of hand written service repairs.

The 280SE remains pretty much all stock & original. Spent its entire life in Southern California with it's original Blue & Yellow plates. A excellent example of a California Classic, very solid bottom - it's what you would expect out of a Los Angeles car. Very clean undercarriage & most important all original body panels. The rear inner wells are solid including the frame structure. A very small rust spot (quarter size) above driver roof rail. All the interior is original and most important all intact. All the wood trim is in place, original radio and headliner. Interior is in beautiful condition for 40+ years old. The original tool kit & jack is still in the trunk. I also have the hood Mercedes Emblem in a box.

The 4.5 V8 is in great running/driving condition. It's smooth and handles well, proving to drive like it only has 60k original miles. The Disc brakes & transmission work as they should, no play. All the exterior lights worked including signals. All the power windows as well as small windows vents work fine. Gauges except clock are in working order. The air condition is complete & is the original R12 system. It has no freon in there but the compressor was working fine when it was full but had a slow leak.

Overall, this is a original Survivor 73' Mercedes 280SE  4.5 California Sedan. Nearly impossible to find these days with Dealer documentation  & 60k actual miles. Don't wait the last seconds to bid, not worth loosing. Keep in mind, this is a original unrestored car - not a show car.

XCAR marks 20-year anniversary of Senna's passing with Mercedes 190E Cosworth

Thu, 01 May 2014

While the automotive world is focusing on the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death, there was much, much more to the legendary driver than his untimely passing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
XCAR has the story of a younger Senna, who, by a stroke of luck, found himself matched up against a veritable dream team of nine Formula One champions, not to mention a cadre of German touring car aces. A "probably still pissed (drunk)" James Hunt, hard-driving Niki Lauda and future champion and rival Alain Prost, were in attendance for the one-off, spec race, which was put on by Mercedes-Benz, in honor of the opening of the Nürburgring's Grand Prix circuit. And Senna was on hand with the explicit goal of besting them all.
Each driver was handed a lightly modified, but brand-new 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, a car that can best be though of as the distant ancestor of the lovable C63 AMG. As for the race itself, well, it was sort of like an introduction of what the sport could come to expect from the Brazilian.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

The biggest misconception about the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is that it's simply a higher-performing version of the SLS GT - a closer look, or better yet, a few hot laps on a high-speed racing circuit, reveals that is anything but the case.
Launched in the States in mid-2011, the standard SLS GT is a 583-horsepower, all-aluminum, gull-wing coupe with performance that positions it near the top of the exotic segment. While the AMG team at Mercedes-Benz could have left it alone, their experience with the SLS AMG GT3 race car said there was room for improvement, so they devised the SLS Black Series. The transformation from SLS GT to SLS Black Series is extensive, with no fewer than 17 different significant enhancements.
The engine mapping, crankshaft, connecting rods, valve-train, intake, exhaust and cooling are all modified and the engine's redline bumps up from 7,200 to 8,000 rpm, which pushes output of the hand-built 6.3-liter V8 to 622 horsepower. The power steering receives a new ratio, a coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance suspension is installed along with underbody braces, the track is widened, two-piece carbon-ceramic brakes replace iron rotors at each corner and a lightweight titanium exhaust is fitted beneath. The AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is modified and an electronically controlled AMG rear differential lock ensures the power goes to the pavement. Last on the mechanical upgrades are new lightweight forged wheels (10x19 inches front and 12x20 inches rear) wrapped in special R-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

In Which Mercedes' Sprinter Becomes A Long-Distance Sherpa
In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat. In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
