1946 Mercury coupe clear ohio title notarized and ready to be signed over. Flathead v8 turns over but backfires when attempting to start, that's all I know about the engine condition. Im not sure if its a timing issue, valve issue, or maybe compression? Car would be a good winter project. It is fairly solid but will require some patches on the driver side floor as well as some of the lower areas of the car. Doors close nicely without sagging. Mostly complete so it could be restored.or build a rat rod. car has a nice patina. Would make a cool survivor style driver. The nearly impossible to find grill and dash is intact. I noticed that it has a different rear bumper, the driver side door trim doesn't match the rest( I assume its a ford trim pc). also the running boards have been replaced with ford coupe running boards but I do have the Mercury trim that can be swapped. radiator has a dent from a barn beam that fell on the old hood at some point during its years of storage. current hood is from Nebraska and is very nice(cost was $300) I removed the old hood hinges and they are in the trunk. It appears that a backyard bodyman pop riveted some tin inside of the rear wheel wells in an attempt to make inner fenders liners, I have taken photos from inside the trunk to show that the tin on the bottom wasn't hiding anything major. I have too many projects and could use the some cash to complete some of the ones that are further along. I don't want to see this car sit outside all winter. please don't bid if you don't intend to buy. email me with any questions or to set up a time to view it before bidding if you would like. buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle. I live in the country so the car can be stored for awhile until shipping can be arranged AS LONG AS IT IS PAID IN FULL first. I will gladly assist with loading.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
