1974 Firebird Formula 350 on 2040-cars

I bought this vehicle about two weeks ago.  I told the owner I would give it a good home and one day restore it.  Long story short, a 1972 Formula 400 was traded in at the Chevy dealership down the road and I was able to buy the vehicle (pictured).  Of course what this meant to my wife was that I must be willing to sacrifice about every car in the garage for this car I had to have.  Therefore I have currently 4 vehicles listed on Ebay.

This car is an awesome, original car that will make someone a great, matching numbers, formula without much work.  Everything is there.  The original, numbers matching, VIN stamped block of the Pontiac 350 motor that runs and drives.  Sounds good.  No smoke, taps, knocks or anything that would look like trouble.  There is a miss I think but it does start right up and run.

The interior is also all there and is factory original Deluxe Saddle.  The seats are fairly worn but not necessarily needing to be recovered.  It NEEDS a headliner and a rear shelf.  The door panels could clean up and look OK.  The dash is dirty but maybe the dirt protected it because it has no cracks.  As hard to find, expensive, and general pain in the butt the dash pad is, this one will clean up and look pretty good.  Same story with the console.  No cracks, so it will clean up and look pretty good.  Gauges seem to work and the fan does blow on all speeds.

The exterior is in pretty good shape except for the rockers which will need to be replaced and the passenger door has a lot of bondo and needs to be replaced.  There is a spare passenger fender that comes with the car.  The car retains most of its sheet metal except for the passenger side.

There is some surface rust underneath the car but the frame is solid and will NOT need to be replaced.  Just the fairly typical areas have rust.  Lower quarters, rockers, lower fenders.  Floor boards have some surface rust but as I looked quickly I could see some rust through areas, but nothing you could fit a baseball through or anything like that.

My plan for the car was to pull motor and replace seals and gaskets.  Clean and spray the engine bay.  Clean up the interior and put in a headliner and a carpet (over new or repaired floorboards) and put a decent driver quality paint job on the car.  Then enjoy a super solid driver that would be a numbers matching, all original, Formula car.  Please ask questions and good luck!

On May-03-14 at 15:28:55 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have had a couple questions on the panels that were replaced and if the car had been in North Carolina long.  I looked through the documentation I had on the car and found a copy of the accident report!  It happened on March 1st, 1982 and the Firebird had been parked in a parking lot and was hit by another car at 3:00pm.  The passenger fender was replaced and also the right side parking lamp, grill and the valance.  It also says that at the time the left and right upper quarters were at least painted if not replaced which to me would indicate the roof and upper quarters were borrowed from another car as I see dark paint or primer.  Furthermore I have documentation until at least 1987 were the car was in Pennsylvania as well as a receipt for a transmission overhaul in 1983.

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

This Auto Aerobics car art ties our brains in knots like pretzels

We like cars, and we like art. Naturally, Chris Labrooy's Auto Aerobics series - computer-generated images of some seriously contorted 1968 Pontiac Bonnevilles floating in mid-air - instantly clicked with us. If the Pontiacs weren't floating or hollow, we could be fooled into believing the image is real. But where's the fun in that?
Check out the gallery we included of Labrooy's Bonneville art, and feel free too head over to his website for some Formula One humor.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
