1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Beautiful, authentic example! The Pontiac Trans Am is certainly a top-level collectible of the 70's-era muscle car scene. Ultra-popular and "as fast as it gets" for 1979, the Trans Am was the peak of the performance car world, marking the final year of the higher displacement, higher horsepower f-body powertrains, and the final year for the W72 400 cubic inch V8 mated to the 4 speed manual transmission. To commemorate 10 years of Trans Am bliss, Pontiac released the fully optioned 10th Anniversary Trans Am, wrapped in a stunning silver finish and trimmed with special black and red stripes, along with a massive multi-colored bird stretched across the hood of the car. This was the all you can get TA, with silver leather, silver trim, and custom accents everywhere. 7500 were produced, but only 1817 were the coveted 400/4 speed combination. Chances are, if you're viewing this listing, you already know most of this if not more. There is quite a bit of online info available regarding the '79 Anniversary Trans Am, but very few original examples available to buy. The Toy Barn is thrilled to offer this absolutely beautiful 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition, complete, correct, and with only 5300 miles! This Trans Am is certainly a great car, and was a recent trade-in here at our store, coming out of a local collector's vehicle "stable". The paint is beautiful, the interior looks excellent, the car runs, drives, and feels very tight, and from top to bottom the car looks beautiful. This Trans Am started it's life delivered to Florian Pontiac in Lakewood, NJ, and was sold to it's original owner in Florida. The original window sticker is still adhered to the side window (displayed separately, see pics below), as well as the adendum showing the addition of dealer added undercoating. The car then spent most of it's life in the south, between Florida and Georgia, and was eventually purchased out of Florida by the gentleman who traded it to us. The Anniversary Trans Am came complete with nearly every option available on the Trans Am, but also some items specific only to Anniversary, including silver leather, mirror finish t-tops, Turbine-style wheels, silver dash trim, silver door panels with red bird stitching, etc. All of these items are intact on this TA, right down to the mini-spare in the trunk. This is an original "survivor" car that does not appear to have ever been restored. It still retains it's undercoating, and is solid and clean underneath. The paint appears to be mostly original, aside from the driver's door that looks to have been refinished some time ago. The Daytona stickers compliment the finish nicely, and the car is complete and solid, and ready to be enjoyed. This TA has an original interior, and the silver leather is in excellent condition. Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
