1974 Pontiac Fire Bird Trans Am Running Driving Project on 2040-cars

Year:1974 Mileage:126313
Location:

Sanford, Maine, United States

Sanford, Maine, United States

This auction listing is for a friend of mine who does not have a computer. We are listing with what information we were given and how we see the vehicle. This car is a running and driving project. Can be used as it is and be made better as you go along. To begin with, this car started life as a 1974 Pontiac Trans AM. Somewhere years ago a roof, floor section and back half of a 1978 Trans Am were sectioned onto the car. Looks like a decent fix. Have no idea why this was done. The front section fire wall forward is 1974. Cowl Tag and VIN is 1974. From the doors back it appears to be 1978.I believe the rear bumper is 74 The original 74 nose cone was damaged so he replaced it with a 76 cone for now. The owner installed a strong running 1977 400 Pontiac Motor and 4 Speed Transmission, power steering, power brakes, and tilt wheel. Also has a Posi traction rear we believe is 3:73 gear ratio. Recent dual exhaust, starter and clutch. Has a set of BF Goodrich Radial TA's 235/60R15 on front and 265/50R15 on rear. The car is fairly solid. Does have a little rust on the passenger side lower rear quarter (very fixable), small amount of rust on passenger lower rocker and a couple of soft areas on the driver side rear floor pan and passenger side front pan. Rest of the floors, frame rails and trunk pan, etc are solid. Even the rear frame rail extension under the rear bumper is good. No question it needs TLC but you can get in and drive it. A good low end muscle car project. We personally have a 1974 Pontiac Firebird parts car that has a good nose cone, grill, bumper, rear clip, etc that would work to fix this car. It is a complete rolling body and interior with no motor or trans. Call for details. We have a current Maine registration and proper transfer forms for a smooth transaction. Please bid only if you intend to follow through with the sale. These auctions take time and cost money so just be serious. If you need more info feel free to call or email us. 1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

This Auto Aerobics car art ties our brains in knots like pretzels

Sat, 14 Dec 2013

We like cars, and we like art. Naturally, Chris Labrooy's Auto Aerobics series - computer-generated images of some seriously contorted 1968 Pontiac Bonnevilles floating in mid-air - instantly clicked with us. If the Pontiacs weren't floating or hollow, we could be fooled into believing the image is real. But where's the fun in that?
Check out the gallery we included of Labrooy's Bonneville art, and feel free too head over to his website for some Formula One humor.
