This is originally a TX car with zero rust or bondo.  It was built in April of 1979.  Orders for the 400ci were refused in March '79, making it one of the last 400 TAs ever made (ref John Witzke).  I have had it for seven years.  I have the complete title history, the Pontiac Historical Services documents as well as many original manuals.  The mileage shows 63K and the documents do not dispute the odometer, so I believe it to be true mileage.  It does not have the original block, but has a correct 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Pwh block.  I don't know if there was a mistake or if it was replaced on purpose with the correct block.  It does have the matching numbers trans, axle, carb, dist, alt.  The engine is .030 over, TRW forged pistons (still has cross hatch in cylinders), HS roller rockers, 6X-4 Cyl Heads w/three angle valve job, ported, gasket matched, headers (Have orig exh manifolds).  It starts and idles perfectly and pulls nice and strong.  The carb is prof rebuilt and spot on.  Drive it anywhere you want without worrying.  Trans (BW ST-10) shifts great, second whines a little but not enough to be a concern.  Brakes and tires are in good shape, stop straight without pulling left or right.  Car drives tight w/out clunking/rattling.  It also has new front shocks.  It doesn't smoke or leak any fluids.

99% of the interior has been restored.  From the duct work behind the dash so the a/c blows fully outside the vents, gauges/lens, complete dash was restored by JustDashes w/grab handle, radio, pedals, front seats (rears are original), carpet, door panels, armrests, headliner, door sills, missing screws, door locks solenoids, trim pcs, blower motor.  The wire harness inside and out are unmolested.

The exterior looks great and draws a lot of looks.  This is a non-t-top car (more rare than the t-top 400ci cars).  No twisting/floor rust issues that traditionally happens with the t-top cars.  I appreciate the shade in the summer as well.  The rims were restored by David's Texas Trans Am Service to the correct color and machined with the micro-lines in the alum.  Then they were cleared to keep them new.  The body and jams were re-painted about three years ago in the correct GM Poly Platinum.  There are two spots where the paint got chipped about the size of a pencil eraser, but not in obvious areas.  The trunk has the correct spare tire, jack, adapters, inflator bottle (not shown but is there).  I added formed carpet to keep down on the noise and protect any items from sliding.  The wheel spoilers need adjustments since re-installed.

The engine bay has been near perfected over the years, back like 1979.  It was completed using restored, NOS, orig GM parts in every position I could. Some items include, seals, hood hinges, fan clutch/blades, a/c compressor, dryer, accumulator, water pump, new radiator w/correct rad. cap, wire looms, air intake, battery, belts, hoses, misc switches, plugs/wires and all the emmisions parts.  The distro was rebuilt and curved for the motor.   I think there are just a few emission parts that could not be found/fixed, mandating parts store replacements.  I use an elect choke for sake of reliability but have the orig heat riser set up.  It was completed using the 1978/79 GM Service Manuals, info from experts in the TA/Pontiac arena.  I used correctly marked hoses, style clamps, bolts, hose/wire routings and wires size/colors.  Hard to find parts may have taken 1-2 years to locate.  Kind of anal, but I enjoyed the process.  I have an extra painted un-cut shaker as well.

The value of these cars is only going to gain momentum as the next generation of auto enthuisist grow older.  These cars are being cleaned up, sprayed and then listed with professional photos.  This is a fun, solid, strong low production car.  You can see every reciept, title, reg pics of the process and talk to the guy who did the work vs a professional car salesman or hobbist that flips cars.  It is time for someone else to make it even better and enjoy it. This car is for sale locally.  I reserve the right to end the auction early in the event that it sells unless the Buy It Now option is utilized.   Contact me with any questions.  Thanks for your time.

This car was always in TX, S. OK and now AR.  Exposure to snow and salt would be extremely limited, if ever.  I added the under carriage pics.  They don't show very well.  The entire underside was coated (Ziebart) way back, I assume it was from the dealership.  It is pretty dirty.  I am sure it would look many times better if it was racked and steamed.  However, the fenders, quarters, trunk pan, floor pans, rear glass, rockers are all solid.  I saw that when it was painted, removed the carpet and general maintainence.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.

GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.
