1984 (not 1980) Euro Porsche 911 Cab, 74k Miles, Beautiful Project, No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1980 Mileage:74963

You're looking at my rare true "Euro" version 1984 Porsche 911 cabriolet with only 74k miles.  The European VIN won't work for eBay's system, so I had to list it as a 1980 but it's a Euro 1984. It is numbers matching and will be a gorgeous car when done.  This car ran and drove great until a wiring harness issue arose from a mouse chewing some of the wiring by the firewall under the hood (behind the gauges)...car was on a trickle charger in the garage and the hood was open just enough for a critter to get in and have some fun.  My mechanic started taking everything apart and labeled every wire as to what it connected to (all wires are still connected at the fuse block).  Unfortunately, he was doing it "on the side" and was taking too long and I just pulled it from him so I could sell it.  My wife and I just bought a new river house and decided to sell most of my Porsche collection to put towards the new house...so...this must go.  It has leather factory sport seats that are in overall good condition.  The carpet is in great shape, and new mats are included.  The car ran and shifted fine before this issue.  The soft top is in good working order.  The cloth is in fine condition, but the plastic window could use replacing as it's discolored.  The original dash has a few typical cracks.  Door panels are nice. All gauges were in working order when taken out to address the wiring issue.  The original painted Fuch wheels are in great shape.  Tires are older and should be replaced.  All brake calipers were rebuilt/replaced and rotors turned or replaced. Comes with original spare, tool kit, jack and manual. AC compressor is disconnected but is in the car. The car simply needs someone with patience and time to reconnect the harness.  Another harness comes with the car as a backup to pull sections from if needed.  The car is rust free and will be worth in the $35-40k range when done.  The original paint is faded in several places and should be redone to be pristine, but looks fine from 10'.  If I didn't need to sell it I wouldn't, but the new house takes priority.  See my other listings for more Porsche's I'm selling...you can see the '79 Targa and '91 C2 cab in the background in a few pics.  Feel free to message me with questions/offers.  Ask any and all questions prior to bidding.  I am a private collector, not a dealer, so all sales are final and no warranties are expressed or implied.  Thanks for looking and happy bidding.  This is a no reserve auction so the last bid wins.  I will gladly work with international bidders, and the Port of Charleston is less than 3 hours from me.  Please do not bid if you do not plan on following through.

eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Porsche 928 convertible by Carelli

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

The Porsche 928 was perhaps the consummate European GT of its day. With a powerful front-mounted V8 engine that grew in displacement as the model years went on, it was capable of eating up the miles at triple-digit speeds in great comfort for occupants. It was also an unusual beauty, with its sharp front and curved rear featuring innovative integrated bumpers.
Currently for auction on eBay Motors is one of the rarest 928s you're likely to find, in a handsome combination of Guards Red paint and tan leather interior, though we wouldn't mind a less-showy finish to the factory wheels. According to the seller, this car is one of eight 928 convertibles by Carelli Design, a firm that's still in business.
The auction claims that these cars were made in 1981 as a feasibility study between Carelli and Porsche for a possible production 928 convertible. The seller says he worked at the dealership where the car is said to have been originally sold $103,000. To remove the roof and hide the convertible top, there were significant changes made to the body and interior, including redesigned doors and a completely new trunk. As you can see in the gallery, when down, the top is completely hidden in a very factory-like fashion. When up, it looks slightly awkward, though (and we'd really like to see a rear three-quarter view to check out the blind spots).

Porsche rolls out new 919 Hybrid at racing gala

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

That Porsche is returning to Le Mans next year with a top-tier LMP1 entry is no news - we've known that for some time. We've even seen pictures of the car in question undergoing testing at various racetracks across Europe, been told who'll be driving it and given some basic parameters of what will make it go. We just haven't known what to call it, but now we do.
In detailing its full endurance racing program for next year at its Night of Champions in Weissach, Porsche has revealed that its new LMP1 racecar will be called the 919 Hybrid. So, something like the 918 Spyder, only one faster. With a four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors, the 919 Hybrid will be taking on the top class at Le Mans next year, with a compelling roster of drivers on the docket: along with Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani, Porsche has assigned its works driver Marc Lieb and F1 test driver Brendon Hartley to the effort. But that's not all Porsche has in store.
The factory is also supporting teams that will campaign the 911 RSR in the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the United SportsCar Championship here in the US, taking Porsche off the pit wall and right in the race seat for next year as part of a comprehensive new racing program, details of which you can read in the press release below.

Porsche Macan configurator lets you build $110k crossover

Mon, 25 Nov 2013

Part of the idea behind the new Porsche Macan is that it's less expensive than its larger sibling, the Cayenne. But with a starting MSRP of $49,900, the base Macan S is actually $300 more expensive than the cheapest Cayenne. That, however, is just the start, as you can see from the online configurator.
As is often the case with German cars in general (Porsches especially), tick the right boxes and you'll soon be leaving that base price behind in a cloud of tire smoke. Start off with the Macan Turbo and you're looking at a base MSRP of $72,300, which is already over twenty grand more than the naturally-aspirated version. But even that soon escalates as the options pile on.
Aurum Metallic paint will set you back $3,120. 21-inch wheels, another $3,300. You'll probably want the air suspension, torque vectoring, the Sport Chrono package, adaptive cruise control and lane-change systems, and those each add over a grand to the price. A Burmester surround sound system is the single most expensive option at $4,290. And if you choose them all - and choose all the optional trim packages - you'll soon be looking at a price in excess of $110,000. That's enough to get you into a Cayenne Turbo... assuming you don't tag on all the options to that one, too.
