1985 Porsche 928 S 5.0L V8

Up for auction is a well maintained 928 S. This is a Classic mid 80's German gran touring coupe. I've enjoyed this classic 928 for the short time I've owned it. Unfortunately I have new ventures to tackle and I need to sell it. I'd have no issue to continue to own it if my situation was different. I truly enjoy the way it drives for such an old car. I looked around for a few months before deciding on this one. It's not perfect and those that do their research on the 928 know it's short comings and it's blessings. I feel I found one that fit's what I was looking for just right. Sure there are a few things here and there that, depending on the buyer, might need attention, but for this price and the condition of the 928, I don't feel you will go wrong snagging this one up.

It is a 20+ year old car, so it's not in perfect condition. However, the engine, transmission, brakes (minus parking brake, needs tightening) engine cooling, idle, cold start, warm idle. running temperature are all in great condition. All lighting works fine. Pop up head lights function correctly and look cool doing so. Fog lights both function. All turn signals and brake lights work except third brake light. Brake light out warn light comes on when started, then turns off or can me manually turned off. This 928 has seen much maintenance to keep it up to date and road ready. New water pump, steering pump, shocks, belts, brakes and tires. The 928 tracks great and still has decent acceleration and great breaking. No smoking or leaks. Power door locks work great. Rear hatch release doesn't work correctly and must be opened with the key. The power windows work fast up and down, but are temper mental. Like all older 928s, there are some electrical issues. The power windows and rear hatch release are the only known electrical issues. There are a couple of small cracks on the dash that are near the windshield and are almost unnoticeable. The rest of the dash is clean and smooth. The driver's seat shows some wear through the cloth bolsters, but there are no other rips, cuts, tear or worn areas in any of the other  seats. Seats are cloth gray pin-stripe.The 928 has been re-sprayed. There are some signs for overspray on fine areas around the black trim, but nothing major. The paint is smooth and even and has a nice pearlescent shine throughout. There is a quarter size rust spot that is bubbling up, but has not penetrated through the paint yet. All the glass is in great condition and the front and rear have new sets of Bosch wipers.

I have two sets of wheels and tires that will go with it. The phone dial wheels currently on it are new, with new tires. There is no curb rash on the phone dials and the gray paint is still glossy and smooth. The slot style wheels that came with the 928 have some curb rash and the tires have 50+% of tread life left on all 4. I also have a set of Ruger, Porsche Fuch style wheels with a modern look that will sell separately. The front are 8.5x19 and 11x19 in the rear. They are gloss black with a polished lip and color Porsche logo on each center cap. I did not install these. Never had time. They are still NIB and have never seen tires and only have come out of the box for pics. (2 only). The other two still are sealed in the box and never removed. I will sell the set for $1,300, OBO, if anyone is interested. I also will include a short shifter I purchased from 928motorsports, still NIB, never installed.

I've tried to list as much as I can about it. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to answer as best as I can. I'm sure I left a few things out in this description. I'll try to get some other pics up as well and if you are a serious buyer and would like a specific pic, let me know and I'll get you your request.

(I'm selling this vehicle while I'm on deployment. I'm due back at the end of March, but I would like to have this completed before then so I can have time to spend on other projects while home for a short time. I have sold and bought other vehicles while being overseas. I actually bought this 928 while on deployment. So it's not an issue to conduct all the transactions over the phone and internet. Please call or send me a message if you are truly interested. 956-358-1842 cell. Please do not text as I'm overseas and I will not get them nor can I answer calls, but I can check my VM, so leave me a message and I will get back with you.)

All the best to those interested! Happy bidding!

Porsche suspends 911 GT3 deliveries amidst fears of spontaneous combustion

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

Seeing pictures of Italian supercars burst into flames by the side of the road, as our compatriots at Axis of Oversteer point out, has become something of a usual sight. But a Porsche? Surely those meticulous German engineers have got that taken care of, right?
Not necessarily. Reports coming in from Europe indicate that no fewer than five 911 GT3 coupes have "spontaneously combusted" in the past few weeks, prompting Porsche to launch an investigation. In the meantime, they've reportedly ceased deliveries of the new GT3 while they try to determine what the problem is and work to rectify it.
We wouldn't be surprised to see a recall issued once the problem is resolved, but for now, we'd encourage existing owners to be extra vigilant behind the wheel - or better yet, leave their cars in the garage for the time being. You wouldn't want to drive a 475-horsepower rear-drive sports car through a Polar Vortex, anyway, right?

Porsche offers detuned Boxster and Cayman 211 in Europe

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

Looking at a new Porsche Boxster? First of all, we commend you on your choice, because in its latest iteration, the Boxster has sped out from under the shadow of the 911 and into its own. But now to choose: do you get the base model with 265 horsepower, the Boxster S with 315 hp, or the top-of-the-line Boxster GTS with 330 hp? It's a daunting question, considering the $10k+ price gap between each model that you could put into the gas-and-rubber jar. Same goes for the Cayman, albeit with ten more horses across the board. But as if that's not confusing enough, there appears to be another player on the field. (That is, at least, in certain European markets.)
Appearing on the company's Belgian and Norwegian sites are the Boxster 211 and Cayman 211. As you might have guessed, they pack a less substantial 211 horsepower, undercutting what we know as the base models. Instead of using a smaller engine, though, the Boxster and Cayman 211 get the same 2.7-liter boxer six, just with less power.
As a result, they're a bit slower off the line: the Boxster 211 takes between 6.1 and 6.4 seconds to get to 62, depending on exact specifications, compared to the 5.5- to 5.8-second range for the 265-hp Boxster, while the Cayman 211 is quoted at 6.2 seconds versus the 275-hp Cayman's 5.4 to 5.7 seconds. Fuel consumption and emissions, on the other hand (and as you'd expect), are better in the 211. But while Porsche Norway charges around $10k less for the 211 models, Porsche Belgium charges the same for the 211 models as it does for the next most powerful versions (from which they appear to be visually indistinguishable).

Jay Leno puts carbon fiber wheels to the test on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Jay Leno's Garage usually focuses on looking at cars new and old, speaking to their owners and then Jay taking a drive to see what he thinks. However, Leno throws his usual shtick to the curb this week to do a full product test of the carbon fiber wheels from a company called Carbon Revolution. If you're not interested in hearing about wheels for 18 minutes, don't worry. They get mounted on a Porsche and are tested back-to-back with stock wheels, and Leno takes the 911 for a track test, too.
While carbon-fiber wheels aren't exactly a new idea, Carbon Revolution's goal is to create a lightweight, one-piece product that can be mass produced. The company even claims that it already has a deal with an OEM automaker to offer them on a vehicle in a few years. The key to the technology is that it doesn't need an expensive autoclave to be made.
In the meantime, the company's carbon fiber wheels are available as an aftermarket option for about $15,000 a set, according to the video. They weigh in at about 15.5 pounds each and offer OEM-levels of stiffness, so they could cut some unsprung mass off of a performance car. Watch here as Jay and his mechanic Bernard lap Willow Springs and give their feedback about what they think of this cutting-edge technology.
