1978 Porsche 930 Turbo
VIN 9308800170

The VIN matches in the window and in the front trunk.
I checked the engine code and serial # and I believe they match with the 1978 MY.
California model

This is the perfect weekend driver.
The car is only driven on nice days, stored inside.  It always runs and runs strong.  No pulling or coughing.  Hardly a rattle either.  Brakes are amazing.  It’s used mostly for dinners and running around town.  I’ve taken in on 300 mile weekend trips with no issue.

Repairs and upgrades:
From the past owner: The original owner back dated the car to the early 70s style exhaust headers so there are no cats.  I've got receipts for head studs, carrara chain tensioner, new clutch, ss oil lines, new bilsteins all around.  Lots of other minor stuff too. Front seats are newly redone with Porsche leather.  All done around 5k miles ago. Has an adjustable Porsche waste gate, set at 1 bar.

New modern headlight from Pelican (still look stock to my eyes).  Re-wired the fuel pump and stereo circuits to take the load off the fuse bar (very important).  Added a new RarlyL8 straight-through muffler.  I have a custom car cover.

Performance:
With the higher boost and straight through exhaust the car is a rocket. The sound is louder than stock, but is very nice.  Car runs straight and true.  Everything is very tight.  3rd gear acceleration on the freeway is ridiculous.

Issues I know of:
Re-spray of factory white
There are a couple small marks on the panel under the door near the jack hole where I’ve had to touch up with paint stick.
I noticed a small amount of rash on one of the wheels.
The AC is non operational.  Needs a new compressor at minimum.  I removed the belt.
Heating system works, but is simplified on/off.
I don’t have the manual, but I do have one from 1979 that came with it.  I don’t have the original tool kit or receipts from before 2000.
Some trim/weatherstrip pieces are not quite centered properly
The interior is very good condition, but shows some wear.

If you intend to drive your car then what's the point of buying a $200K show condition 930?  This is the happy medium; great looking, great running and priced in the middle of the pack.

Porsche would have entered F1 if Audi had blocked its Le Mans program

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Go back a few years and you may have heard rumors of Porsche heading into Formula One. That never came to pass - or at least, it hasn't yet - but that doesn't mean that it wasn't close to happening. That's how committed to returning to top-level motorsport competition Porsche has become recently.
Autosport reports that just as Porsche was merging fully into the Volkswagen Group, Zuffenhausen was weighing its options for a factory racing program. Le Mans was its favorite, which makes sense, as it remains far and away the most successful constructor in the history of the famous endurance race. But the strategists at Porsche were worried that its new corporate overlords at Volkswagen wouldn't support two LMP1 programs and would favor Audi, which has positively dominated the modern era of endurance racing, coming second only to Porsche in the number of Le Mans victories it has scored to date.
Porsche's Plan B was reportedly to head into Formula One, although it isn't clear if the German automaker was intent on starting its own team, buying an existing one or merely providing engines to other teams. Porsche fielded its own cars in F1 in the late 1950s and early 60s, and returned as an engine supplier with TAG to power McLaren in the 1980s, powering Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to the World Championship in 1984 and 1985.

Touring Italy in a classic Porsche will have you feeling continental

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

It's hard to believe there was a time when a Porsche 911 didn't come to market with 400 horsepower. But as the latest video from Petrolicious reminds us, with this video of a 1968 911T, owned by Donato Maniscalco, that time wasn't so long ago.
You might think, being a distinguished man living in Italy, Maniscalco would be more enthused by a Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini, but in reality, it was always Porsche that enamored the Italian as a boy. And it was that passion that led him to purchase the glorious 911T he's seen tossing about in this video.
Maniscalco goes into detail about what makes the old 911 such a legend, while also mentioning how he and the car participate in classic rallies and races. There's also some typically beautiful footage of the Italian countryside, as well. So take a look below for the latest video from Petrolicious.

Porsche Macan spied, all lit up and dodging flurries

Thu, 17 Jan 2013

We've seen the upcoming Porsche Macan testing on surface roads and even on the Nürburgring, but here we have our first spy shots showing a disguised prototype doing some winter testing in snowy conditions. Still obscured by plenty of camouflage attempting to mimic its larger Cayenne sibling, we still can't get a clear look at what the Macan's face and rump are going to look like, although it does appear that some details for the front lighting are starting to emerge.
Below the headlights, those are obviously decals trying to look like turn signal lenses, but it appears that there is still some sort of lighting being hidden judging by the small circles cut into the camo. Lower in the fascia, we can also see there are LED running lights not revealed on past prototypes. The entire rear end of this Macan prototype still appears to be tacked-on camo, but the side view appears to be in production form save for the poorly disguised rear quarter windows.
As we've seen in the past, Porsche engineers are still testing the Macan alongside the Audi Q5 with which it shares its platform. There has been no word as to when we could expect to see the Macan in production or concept form, but we'd have to guess that this compact crossover is getting ready to shed its camo very soon.
