Suzuki Samurai Lwb (long Wheel Base) on 2040-cars
Portland, Oregon, United States
Bone stock Samurai. No rust or body cancer. Bought and used for hunting over the years. I randomly "discovered" what a long wheel base Samurai was when I was surfing the web one day. I just HAD to have one, learned they are EXTREMELY rare --- so I stretched mine. The body work is first class all the way. The rockers are boxed, professional welds throughout, seem sealed, under carriage is coated. I found the original long wheel base chassis diagram online (anyone can - simple Google search) and stretched the frame to that specification (14 inches between the wheels and 10" onto the rear end). Where I stretched the frame was before the rear spring perch, so the entire rear spring perch frame/setup is untouched. Meaning you can bolt a YJ kit right onto it. The brake lines, fuel lines, drive line ---- all stretched. Engine has the following: New Clutch, new pressure plate, new pilot and throw-out bearings, new front and rear main seals, new plugs, new fuel pump. The motor runs great, ZERO leaks, Zero smoke. Has Sidekick seats - no rips or tears - very comfy. The Samurai was *never* meant to be a show rig, etc. I am just some random guy that had a strong running Sami for deer season and got completely infatuated with making my rig into into a long wheel base. Was easy and a lot fun. I plan to sell this one and do some more of them. My car background is with VW vans. PLEASE - serious buyers only --- there is a LOT of info online that has been posted over the years on how to stretch a Samurai. If I wanted to talk about stretching I would be on the Pirate or ZukiWorld forums. |

205k Suzuki models being investigated for airbag sensor issue
Wed, 19 Jun 2013The Detroit News is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation on the 2006-11 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 2007-11 Suzuki SX4 due to issues with the airbag and seatbelt for the front passenger seat. So far, NHTSA has received 128 complaints on these vehicles for airbag warning lights, airbag off lights and seatbelt lights, on a vehicle set that totals around 205,000 units, but there is no indication as to how many, if any, injuries have reported.
Via technical service bulletins, Suzuki has already acknowledged two airbag-related issues with front passenger seats on both vehicles, including a programming error for the passenger seat load indicator on 2009 models and an open-circuit problem for the sensor mat that determines if an adult or child is sitting in the front seat. Since this latter issue would not shut off or lessen the impact of the passenger airbag, Suzuki has already extended the warranty for the seat cushion bottom to 10 years or 120,000 miles. After ceasing new-car sales in the US and Canada, potential recall repairs (which still may or may not happen) would be handled by remaining dealers as laid out in the recent court-approved bankruptcy plan.
American Suzuki Motors files chapter 11, will no longer sell cars in the United States
Mon, 05 Nov 2012As much as we knew it was a possibility, we have to say that Suzuki's announcement this afternoon that it is filing chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings caught us a bit off guard. American Suzuki Motor Corporation - the sole distributor of Suzuki automobiles in the United States - will realign its business to focus on motorcycles, ATVs and the marine market.
What does this mean in simple terms? In short, new Suzuki cars and trucks will no longer be sold by Suzuki in the United States once current supplies run out. Period.
Suzuki cites "low sales volumes, a limited number of models in its lineup, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, the high costs associated with growing and maintaining an automotive distribution system in the continental US and the disproportionally high and increasing costs associated with stringent state and federal regulatory requirements unique to the US market."
Suzuki iV-4 Concept is a personalized 'ute for everyone but US
Wed, 11 Sep 2013It's with some sadness that we present to you the Suzuki iV-4 Concept - there's absolutely no way we'll ever see a production Suzuki based off this conceptual design in the States, despite the fact that the brand has quite a small-SUV heritage on our shores. Of course, we won't be seeing any new Suzuki passenger cars or trucks in the US at all...
For the rest of the world, Suzuki's push with this concept is personalization. According to the automaker, the name is broken down as such: "i" stands for "individuality," "V" for "vehicle," and "4" for "4 wheel-drive." A tad convoluted, perhaps, but we'll roll with it.
As far as its styling, the iV4 doesn't break any new ground for Suzuki, recalling its past and current production models with details that include a clamshell hood and a five-slot grille. Suzuki promises a production variant of this concept, and the "individuality" part will be accomplished through a selection of exterior components, colors and textures, though we're not clear what exactly that means or how it will differ from the accepted practice of ordering a unique car through a dealership.
