1996 Toyota Land Cruiser Base Sport Utility 4-door 4.5l on 2040-cars

Beverly, Massachusetts, United States

1996 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 (clean title) with Factory Locking Differentials (494) with 223,150 miles. I purchased my dream truck 2.5 months ago with the intention of restoring it to its former glory. However, a recent home purchase that ended up going well over asking has wiped out my restoration budget and then some, which has forced the sale of my LC. This truck is running but definitely needs some repairs before it can become a daily driver. This vehicle was inspected on 2/2014 at a local Toyota dealership.

The body is very clean, with a few minor dings (see hood) but the body is straight with no rust (spent entire life in Texas). All power works in the vehicle, but some windows are slow and locks need work (typical of this car). Heat and AC works great. The front seats do not move forward or backward due to stripped gears (another common issue) - I have new gears but have not yet replaced them. The interior is in really great shape with the exception of a few carpet stains. Cable for ebrake needs to be replaced. The main issue that needs to be addressed is the transmission as it skips gears in drive but works fine when shifting manually L-2-D.  This transmission issue is triggering the check engine light -‘shift solenoid B’ code. This truck has a few leaks typical of a car this age, including a small brake fluid leak that I monitor before taking her out The left front turn signal needs to be replaced.

I have put four brand new tires (less than 200 miles) on the truck, a new Diehard battery, installed a new EGR valve, serviced the front wheel bearings (Toyota), and purchased several parts that will ship with the vehicle. Detailed instructions on vehicle repairs can be found on iH8MUD.com. All paperwork for parts and service will come with the vehicle. This is a great truck that needs a little work to get going full time. It is rare to find these trucks that are not rusted out or used for rock crawling, I wish I could hang on to her and restore this solid axle 4x4 for family trips out West and beyond.

Please email me with any questions before bidding. I will need $500 deposit 24 hours after auction close with the remainder of the balance within 7 days of close. Bidding history required. Title and key will be priority mailed upon payment in full. The vehicle will then be shipped or towed and paid by auction winner.

BMW, Toyota outline new tech joint venture, new sports car

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

Back in June, Toyota and BMW announced a "memorandum of understanding" outlining plans for the two companies to join forces on future products and technology development. On Thursday, they signed a more formal and binding agreement that goes further into detail about the partnership, and it all sounds pretty exciting. The two announced they will work together in four main areas:
Joint development of a fuel cell system
"Set up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle"

Toyota recalls 690,000 Tacoma trucks for rusty leaf springs, fire risk

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

Toyota has announced that it will be issuing a recall of 690,000 Tacoma pickups from model years 2005 through 2011. The affected vehicles include both the four-wheel-drive model and the two-wheel-drive PreRunner (but not the standard 4x2 pickups), which may have a rather serious problem with their rear suspensions.
In some cases, corrosion and stress could cause one of the three or four leaves in the rear suspension's leaf springs to fracture. While the trucks can still be driven with a broken leaf, Toyota is concerned that it could move out of position and impact other components in the rear of the truck, with a particular focus on the fuel tank. Needless to say, but a piece of metal continuously impacting anything, let alone the fuel tank, is cause for concern.
As of this writing, there have been no reports of crashes, injuries, fires or deaths due to this problem, although that won't stop Toyota from informing all affected customers of the issue. Those 690,000 owners will need to report in to dealers for inspections and, if necessary, repairs.

Shuttle-hauling Tundra finds permanent home in science exhibit

Mon, 03 Jun 2013

The idea of lifting a full-size pickup truck completely off the ground by hand might seem as likely as, say, said pickup truck towing a 150,000-pound space shuttle, but... hurray, physics! The same Toyota Tundra that towed the Space Shuttle Endeavour to its final resting place at the California Science Center is now on permanent display there as an exhibit that shows how a lever works.
Like all levers, this exhibit uses a fulcrum allowing people other than Superman to lift the 5,625-pound pickup (plus an extra 1,000 pounds for the rig). That's almost as impressive as the Tundra pulling 17 times its rated towing capacity back in October. Regardless, Toyota is once again cashing in on the publicity stunt and visitors to the science center get a live demonstration of a simple machine - we call that a win-win.
