THERE IS NO BOLT UNTOUCHED ON ENTIRE BAJA! BODY I STARTED WITH A SOLID BODY WITH NO RUST OR ROT TO BEGIN WITH. THE BODY WAS COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED AND REMOVED FROM CHASSIS AND STRIPPED TO BARE METAL. I STAYED IN THE GERMAN FAMILY WITH A STUNNING PORSCHE INDIAN RED PAINT JOB THAT I HAVE OVER FIVE GRAND ALONE IN. EVERYTHING GOT PAINTED AT SAME TIME FROM BODY, DASH, DOORS, UNDER THE HOOD, INSIDE ROOF RAILS TO EVEN THE MATCHING TIN ON THE MOTOR. THE FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS, SIDE BARS AND GAS TANK GOT A MIDNIGHT BLACK PAINT JOB. AND THE CLASSIC WHITE FOR THE RIMS FOR THAT BAJA LOOK. THEN CAME ALL THE BRAND NEW PARTS; HEADLIGHTS AND RINGS, TURN SIGNALS, RUNNING LIGHTS, FOG LIGHTS, HOOD PINS, WIPERS, ANTENNA, SIDE MIRROR, WINDOW DEFLECTORS, ALL NEW MOLDINGS DOWN THE SIDE, TAIL LIGHTS, TO BRAND NEW LIGHT UP BUGGY WHIP ANTENNA WITH FOLD DOWN MOUNT AND ROOF RACK. FINALLY, I BOUGHT EVERY PIECE OF RUBBER GASKETS, GOURMETS, SEALS, ECT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. AND NOT THE CHEAP ONES EITHER BUT WOLFSBURG WEST. NEEDLESS TO SAY, SHE WILL STOP ON A DIME AND GIVE YOU CHANGE. NEXT, CAME THE MOTOR THAT I HAD SENT OUT TO ONE OF THE BEST BUILDERS IN OUR AREA. ITS A 1641cc MOTOR THAT IS BRAND NEW AND REALLY HASN'T EVEN BEEN BROKE IN YET. ALL THE WINDOWS ARE TINTED AND THEN THERE ARE LED LIGHTS UNDER THE DASH, IN THE BACK SEAT AREA, UNDERNEATH THE BAJA AND OVER THE MOTOR TO SHOW IT ALL OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT OR AT THE CAR SHOWS. AND THE LIGHT UP BUGGY WHIP ANTENNA WITH FOLD DOWN MOUNT. CONCLUSION IN CONCLUSION, THIS BAJA BUG IS RESTORED RIGHT AND NEEDS NOTHING BUT A PROUD NEW OWNER THAT WILL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DO... AND EVEN THOUGH I BUILT IT AS MY DAILY DRIVER AND TO WIN THE 1ST PLACE TROPHY AT THE CAR SHOW, I DID ADD THE INGREDIENTS IF YOU DARE TO TAKE IT OFF ROAD. YET, THIS BAJA HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD (BESIDES THE BEACH) BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF SCRATCHING IT. Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show
Thu, 23 Jan 2014If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from having a carbon fiber roof and CF in the bodywork, lighter wheels, thinner bucket seats up front and a roll cage instead of rear seats.
If there's a power increase, it's been described as "a small bump." However, as the report mentions, if the Jenny Craig regimen can drop 100 kilograms (220 pounds) from the the 3,247-pound weight of the European Golf R, then the Golf R Evo will do about the same damage on the scales as the Golf but have at least 50 more horsepower and 44 more pound-feet of torque.
Since we still don't have the current Golf, this isn't something that should keep you awake even if the 'concept' does become a production model. But it is good to know that the Golf R is really going to start pushing its boundaries.
Volkswagen adding R-Line trim to Touareg, Tiguan for 2014
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Volkswagen introduced its aggressive R-Line appearance package on the CC and Beetle last year, but later this year, this treatment will also be applied to VW's crossovers, the Tiguan and Touareg. Both sporty-looking utility vehicles will be unveiled next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 Tiguan R-Line comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and the package adds 19-inch wheels, grey fender extensions, body-color side skirts and a liftgate spoiler. Inside, the R-Line adds a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black headliner and numerous metallic trim accents such as the stainless scuff plates, the aluminum pedals and metallic finish on the instrument and door panels. The Tiguan R-Line will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
As for the 2014 Touareg R-Line (shown above), this model gets an ever more distinctive look with an aggressive front fascia, 20-inch wheels and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets in addition to the painted side skirts and LED taillights. Similar metallic interior trim pieces found inside the Tiguan R-Line will also make their way into the Touareg as well as gloss black accents on the instrument panel and center stack.
VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC
Sat, 22 Jun 2013Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
