1971 VOLKSWAGEN POPUP BUS!
MADE IN GERMANY AND SHIPPED TO FLORIDA IN 1971
MADE IN GERMANY IN 1971 IT WAS ORIGINALLY SHIPPED TO 1306 CHERRY HILL RD,SUN CITY CENTER FLORIDA.
After that the bus made it's way across the lower the southern USA where it settled in Southern California. From there we have determined it traveled to the upper northwest, and Las Vegas. In 1996 the bus was worked on by Western VW repair,in Vegas where they did some engine work. The work order indicates the 3 and 4 cylinders had low compression so they rebuilt the head, removed 3&4 jugs, honed cylinders, and replaced misc. seals and hardware. In 2006 the bus made an extensive tour of the gulf states, where it eventually was stopped and searched by the Oklahoma State Police. They found no drugs, but did destroy the interior in their search. I'm guessing VW buses with older long haired individuals tend to be a target for police.
In 2007 this historic bus was purchased by my friend Bigfoot. Called so because he is 6' 10 inches tall. He bought it to replace the 1968 bus he had enjoyed for so many years. It was his original intention to restore the bus. He put a new muffler on it. Repaired all the lights to working order, and wiring. The brakes were rebuilt too so they work excellent.
As Bigfoot is a very large man who's getting older his health has suffered and he is currently disabled. He no longer has the ability to continue the restoration. In 2009 Bigfoot put the bus in his garage and the restore stopped. He was diligent about starting the van and limited to driving to keep everything in working order.
Bigfoot has all the original paperwork too. Included is the original transport order from the factory in Hannover,Germany, owners manual, maintenance record book, and other misc. factory info. Most written in German. The key is in German along with the instructions above the steering wheel. This is the last year VW used the TYPE 1,single carb 1600 cc motor in this bus. . I will be completely honest as to the good and the bad to the best of my knowledge. I could have pressured washed the undercarriage to remove any signs of drip[ping oil,or old grease, but I believe it is important that the new owner have complete knowledge of all of this bus, called "Blue" by her current owner ,had to offer. Both good, and bad. Below is a list of the good and the not so good.
THE GOOD Engine runs strong Trans is in excellent working order and shifts smoothly All lights are in working order Brakes are new The body is in really good shape despite a couple rust spots The undercarriage is in near perfect shape In 1996 at 121,000 miles extensive engine work was done by an accredited VW repair shop Excellent candidate for restoration Can be driven anywhere in the USA Interior restoration has been started Newer tires New Carb Has experienced a lot of adventure in her life
THE BAD Has rust on the rocker panel under the passenger sliding door rocker(pictures included) Has rust on the seam in passenger side floor board (pictures included) Has minor repair on seams above jack points with bondo. Not for rust but for minor dents Has minor bubbling in paint in various spot. All just surface bubbling Engine leaks oil. Not a lot but it drips. (It seems every older VW I've owned leaks. Maybe it's just me) The popup canvas was destroyed by cops, and all that's left is the mosquito screen Driver side seat is ripped Drivers door sticks (opens easily from inside but outside handle needs adjusting) Passenger window handle needs replace(window works fine) Missing one hubcap Not original paint from factory. was originally green Needs a new free spirit of adventure to drive her
The Kombi, also known as a "standard bus" or an "11 window bus, was Volkswagen's
entry-level passenger bus. Volkswagen coined the name Kombi to describe the fact
that this model was a "Kombination" vehicle that could carry passengers
(when the back seats were in place) or cargo (with the back seats removed).
The Kombi was a simple vehicle that was outfitted very similar to the Panel Van,
with an interior covered in grey masonite-type panels instead of vinyl or cloth.
Most camper conversions (Westfalia, Sundial, Riviera...) were based on the Kombi model.
IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS VAN IS PERFECT FOR RESTORATION. IT'S HISTORY OF TRAVEL THROUGH THE SOUTH,SOUTHWEST,NORTHWEST,AND THE MIDWEST CARRIES A LOT OF HAPPY KARMA.
IT DOES NEED SOME WORK BUT HAS A LOT OF SOLID QUALITIES TO WORK WITH. WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO SAVE HER AND BRING HER BACK TO HER ORIGINAL GLORY?
I HAVE POSTED A LOT OF PICTURES BUT IF YOU REQUIRE ANY MORE DETAILED PICTURES,OR MORE INFO THAT i HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS

Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.

Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises - after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will be.
We can only share these three images at this time, but fret not, folks. There's little doubt that all the details and images will be flowing from Volkswagen in short order. In the meantime, click on the images above to view them in high resolution.

Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. Click on over to view the extensive gallery of high-quality images from Ran When Parked.
