Jetta Sedan Tdi 2003, One Owner - No Reserve! on 2040-cars

This is a great little car that has had one owner since it was new. It shifts (5 speed) and drives well, still tight and smooth. It gets 45 MPG and over 800 miles to the tankful. It has never been in a wreck. There is some rust starting on the front left wheel well (see photo) from a minor fender bender repair, and rust dots on the front of the hood. The interior is in good shape, no rips or tears, just some rubbing in places like the driver's seat. The seats are leather and the driver's has a 5 position heater. No smoking and no odors. Note you can play either CDs or cassettes, nice radio. It has been serviced by the book. Synthetic oil. Timing belt has been changed twice, once at 100,000, second time 38,000 miles ago. 2 keys and the original owner's manual are included. The car is being sold as is. It is in use and is in Wilmington DE over the weekend until Tuesday Nov 5. After that it will be home in Onancock VA (Eastern Shore). It is the buyer's responsibility for pick up or shipping. Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki
Tue, 02 Oct 2012Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.
Volkswagen Golf Variant will make a lovely Jetta SportWagen
Tue, 05 Mar 2013In addition to several other versions of the Golf, Volkswagen is debuting the new Golf Variant (read: wagon) here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. And if this bigger version of the Golf looks like it might fit right at home in the States, it's because we could possibly see some version of this car as the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here on our shores.
Volkswagen is debuting the Golf Variant with two efficient diesel engines, rated at 110 and 150 horsepower, the smaller of which is good for an impressive 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle (when mated to a six-speed manual transmission). The Golf Variant also gets a version of Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, making it incredibly all-weather capable.
It's a handsome estate, and it wears the new Golf's design language well. We can't say for sure if this car will actually make its way Stateside, but given the fact that the current Jetta SportWagen still rides on the old Golf platform, the odds look to be in our favor.

Let's have some fun, and do some math. We're talking pretty rudimentary stuff, multiplication and division, to figure out if the upcoming Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid can make a baseline case for itself against two very strong competitors in this segment. The competitors in question, at least for now, are two more Jettas: the diesel-drinking TDI and the fit-for-the-masses SE with VW's long-serving 2.5-liter engine.
To keep the equations clean and simple (hey, we're writers), we'll calculate based on the most flattering EPA miles per gallon stat from highway driving for all cars, assume a healthy 20,000 miles driven per year, and factor in today's average cost for the respective fuels these three require: diesel (TDI), regular (SE) and premium (Hybrid). We'll also start with the base prices for all models.
