Description

I bought this car a little under a year ago. I had another car that blew an engine and I needed a car right away. I found this car from a dealer in Philadelphia, PA. This spring I was finally able to find a descent deal on an engine for my other car and was able to get it back on the road. Now I am stuck with keeping up and insuring both cars, so this one needs to be sold.

Autocheck shows I am the third owner. I am not sure who the first owner was, but the title before me showed a business name that appeared to be a mechanic/tire shop. It also showed that there was a minor left side accident. This was also before my time and I don't have any information on what actually happened. I could not tell from inspecting or driving that anything had happened. I am assuming it was a small fender bender.

The car is in great shape for being over 8 years old. The exterior is in excellent shape, there are no major dents, dings, or scratches, no rust spots or bubbling. The only thing the exterior needs is a couple of the center caps on the wheels, these seem to be notorious for falling off. The tires seem to have about half thier life left from what I can tell. The interior is in good shape also. The leather is in nice condition and has no stains or tears. The dash is nice and not sun damaged or cracked. There is some paint wear around the plastic moulding that covers the center around the shifter and the back of the center console, from what I have seen this is pretty common for these cars.

The car runs and drives great. I have not had any trouble with the engine, no lights or anything have came on since I have had it. There is a note in the manual that says the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, some filters and spark plugs were replaced at 85k. The A/C and heat both work well.

The car is located in Morgantown, WV. It is about an hour outside of Pittsburgh International Airport. If you are flying in, we can try to make arrangements to meet at or near the airport for you to pick up the car. I have tried to describe the car in as much detail as I can and have included many pictures.

Car is being sold "AS-IS, WHERE-IS." No warranty is expressed, written or implied from the seller whatsoever. You and/or an agent are welcome to inspect and drive the car in person prior to bidding.I will not bring the car to pittsburgh before a sale just for someone to look at it. If you would like to inspect it, we can make arrangements to meet here in Morgantown. Please read the entire description, view all pictures, and ask any questions you may have PRIOR to bidding.  Your bid signifies that you have read the description, have viewed the pictures, and have had all off your questions answered satisfactorily. A $250.00 down payment is required within 24 hours of the winning bid and is non-refundable for ANY reason to cover time and listing fees should you back out of the commitment.

Car is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early due to local sale.

Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]

Fri, 14 Dec 2012

Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.

Happy 60th to the VW Karmann Ghia

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

Volkswagen's product portfolio may be as extensive these days as any other carmaker in the business. But if you still think of the original Beetle as synonymous with the brand, that's probably because a) you're old and b) the Beetle was the company's only product until the mid-50s.
Sixty years ago Wilhelm Karmann (founder of the eponymous coachbuilder) was in Paris for the auto salon and met up with Luigi Segre and his team from Carrozzeria Ghia who showed him what was essentially a "Beetle in a sports coat." A month later they showed it to Volkswagen chief Heinrich Nordhoff who, setting aside his conservative tastes, approved it for production. And so the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was born, giving the German marque a second product line. It still used Beetle mechanicals and was built at the same Karmann factory in Onsabrück that was already assembling the Beetle Cabriolet.
It took another couple of years to put the design into production, but from 1955 to 1974, Volkswagen and Karmann built 362,601 coupes and 80,881 of the subsequent convertible that arrived in 1957. Today the Onsabrück factory is part of the VW Group, handling production of the Golf Cabriolet, XL1 and Porsche Boxster and Cayman, and with that original Karmann Ghia prototype as part of its factory collection.

Porsche again staring down another $1.8B in hedge fund lawsuits

Wed, 15 May 2013

The sequence of events from 2007 that began with Porsche's secret attempt to take over Volkswagen, and instead lead to Porsche being taken over by VW, continues to instigate lawsuits against the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer. A group of hedge funds that suffered over $1 billion in losses sued the car company in New York. Porsche had publicly stated it wasn't trying to buy VW, the hedge funds in question were shorting VW stock, and when Porsche's actual intentions were revealed, the stock shot up and the hedge funds took a beating.
The case was thrown out over the issue of jurisdiction, then appealed, only to see another suit filed on top of that. After that, most of the hedge funds withdrew their claims in New York and Porsche offered a 90-day window to refile in Germany where it is already fighting a number of other suits over the same issue. The hedge funds accepted the offer, refiling in Stuttgart for $1.8 billion in damages. According to Bloomberg, Porsche hasn't commented on the refiling, but as the same plaintiffs are involved, it's safe to assume that the carmaker still feels the case is "unsubstantiated and without merit." It has fared alright so far even in German courts, with two lesser cases against it thrown out last year.
