1973 Mercury Cougar Xr-7 Convertible on 2040-cars
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, United States
This is a decent 40 year old car that could use some freshening up. I am moving and therefore would rather sell it than take it with me across country. The non- original paint is tired but looks fine in the photos. It is not fine up close! The interior upholstery is original and the tan dash has been replaced or repainted in black. I have done the following in the last 4 months: New Timing Chain New Distributor New Alternator New Aluminum Water Pump New Thermostat w/ correct 351c block plate (Runs cooler) New Dual Exhaust with Flowmasters & Chrome Tips Newer Mustang Alloy Wheels & Decent Tires This car originally had Air Conditioning but it has been removed from the engine compartment. Refurbished Air Cleaner New "Ignitior" Breakerless Ignition (No more points) The power top works well but the material has numerous cuts and tears in it. The white leather interior is original Cougar. The paint is tired and should be redone. The car was originally a mustard yellow color. Any questions please ask. I do not want to see anyone unhappy with their purchase by thinking they are getting a pristine example of the car. It is a very nice car for the money. |

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue
Mon, 29 Oct 2012A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.
Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
