1982 Porsche 930 Canadian Car Euro Spec Excellent Driver Well Maintained on 2040-cars
Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, Canada
1982 Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) Vin WP0JA0935CS050089 Mileage is in kilometres In 1982 eighty nine 930s were imported to Canada, so this
particular car was the last one for that year.
They made less than a thousand in 1982 overall, and the Canadian cars
are Euro spec – 300 hp with a nice stance.
Paint to sample, limited slip, sports seats. Car was sold new in Toronto, Ontario. Particulars on the first two owners are in
the original owner’s manual and service booklet, which are in new condition. The third owner purchased the car in April of
1988 at 59.3K kms, and I have the invoice.
The original build sheet and service records from 1982 to 1988 are not
available, but the third owner maintained good records and plenty of regular
maintenance was performed, with most of the maintenance performed by Riegel
Tuning in Calgary, Alberta. In 1996 the
car was inspected by the owner’s insurance company and was showing 129.4k
Kms. There is an invoice on file dated
2000 for a windows out repaint - $6300 at 131K kms. The condition of the paint and panels is excellent,
with the usual stone chips on the hood and mirrors after 35K kms of
travel. I spoke with the owner who paid
for this work, and he has advised that it was done to spruce the car up for
sale, and not to repair damage or rust. There
are absolutely no rust, dents, dings. The
underside is solid with original undercoating and no corrosion. In 2002 the car changed hands at 136.3K kms and in April,
2005 an engine out service and reseal was performed at 141,416 kms – cost was
$6,892.51. Among the most significant
service items were a new clutch, new flywheel, and upgraded chain tensioner
kit. Compression was 130 in all 6
cylinders, and leakdown results were 3% for 1, 2, 3, 2% for 4, 5% for 5,
6. In 2006 the car was sold to the fellow I purchased it
from, and there are spotty records for the occasional service and minor
maintenance. Brake master and alternator
were replaced. When he had it appraised
in 2011 there were 155K Kms on the odometer, which was the mileage when I took
delivery in March, 2012. I interviewed 3 of the previous 5 owners who had owned
the car since 1988. This 930 has been
stored in garages during winters. The
car has an expensive Alpine period correct stereo system that includes a multiple
CD changer, amplifier, digital receiver, and 4 speakers. All
glass is perfect, and the front windshield was recently replaced. I have a detailed summary of the service I’ve performed
since taking possession (receipts are available) and have been fastidious about
the basic maintenance (new rear brake rotors and pads, fuel injectors, plugs
and wires, adjust valves, change all filters, cap, rotor, O rings, wheel
alignment, new tires, adjust clutch, etc….).
I keep the car in a heated garage
and have not driven it in the rain or on the track. All electrical and mechanical items work as
they should except for the power antenna.
The AC hasn’t been charged since before the last owner bought it in
2006, but all parts are intact. This car runs strong and quite remarkably, does not leak
one drop of oil. I may add up to 200 mls
between oil changes (I change the oil every 1500 miles), which for a 166K km
turbo motor (100K miles) is noteworthy – the motor does not smoke, even on
boost. If it sits for a week + there may
be a puff of smoke on start up. The car
pulls well through the entire rev range, the 4 speed shifts as it should with
no binding or grinding. I note in the
service history that the syncros have received work in the past. No mods – this car is bone stock except for
the stereo. The interior is in excellent condition for the age and
miles, although the bolster in the driver seat is getting tired. It is not torn, but the piping is frayed and
faded. Carpets are excellent. Two of the wheels have a smearing of minor
curb rash, and the tires are almost new.
Interior has a rich leather smell. The car includes the original tool kit and air pump, and
the spare. Includes Porsche 930 service manual on CD, as
well as all records, owners, and warranty manuals. I would not hesitate to drive this across
the Continent, it has been that reliable.
Don’t let the mileage dissuade you – this car has been driven an average
of 5K Kms per year over it’s life, and has been well maintained. I reserve the right to end the auction early. For the successful bidder a $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction closing. Payment is full is due within 5 days of closing. Local pickup preferred, and I will work with the buyer to arrange for transportation or shipping at the buyer's expense. |

Porsche planning Cayman GT4 racer
Fri, 10 Oct 2014To say that Porsche is big in racing is like saying that Warren Buffett dabbles in mergers and acquisitions. But while it fields the 919 Hybrid at Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the bulk of its racing activities are undertaken by private teams that buy customer racecars from the factory. Those in turn are largely based on the 911, but the latest intel from the motor racing world indicates that Zuffenhausen is planning a more accessible customer race car.
The new, more affordable competition car is to be based on the Cayman and built to GT4 specifications, slotting in below the 911-based GT3 Cup, GT3 R and RSR. Autosport reports that Porsche has already developed a prototype and will shortly commence testing. Details are scarce at the moment, but the Cayman GT4 would seem to compete against the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage N24, Nissan 370Z Nismo GT4 and Maserati GranTurismo MC. It will also likely help Porsche foster enthusiasm for a potential road version that's already been spotted undergoing testing. Previous GT4 racing conversions of the Cayman, like the one pictured above, were carried out by third-party racing constructors not recognized by the factory.
Porsche may not be the only one showing interest in the category, however. BMW is said to similarly be considering a GT4-spec version of its M235i Racing model to compete in the same class, taking the place of the defunct M3 GT4 as the Bavarian marque's entry-level customer racing car.
Porsche 911 Targa Turbo for Geneva debunked, 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR racers coming instead
Fri, 28 Feb 2014Porsche has proven adept at making sure there is a version of its venerable 911 for practically any wealthy driver's desires. If you just want a great all-rounder then buy a standard 911; open-air driving, then the Cabriolet is for you, and if you need a compromise between them, there is even the new 911 Targa.
Gossip earlier this week surfaced on various websites that at next week's Geneva Motor Show, Porsche had designs on introducing an even higher-performance Targa variant, a Targa Turbo. The rumored mashup would combine the wide body from the 911 Turbo with the super-complicated power roof from the Targa (see right). Assuming no changes in power, that would mean 520 horsepower or even 560 hp in a Targa Turbo S model. Unfortunately, we're hearing that this tasty bit of scuttlebutt is incorrect. Autoblog asked Nick Twork, Porsche North America Product Communications Manager, about the rumor, and his response couldn't have been clearer: "Totally false."
Twork did elaborate that company will be "debuting the Porsche 919 Hybrid, our new LMP1 race car" at the Swiss show, and Stuttgart has also announced this morning that will show its 911 RSR racecar, too - either of which we reckon is a lot more exciting than another Targa variant.
Porsche tuners 9ff, SpeedArt going bankrupt
Thu, 19 Sep 2013Times are tough in Europe right now, and that unfortunately has reaped disastrous consequences for some of its smallest niche automakers. Gumpert, Wiesmann, Artega and Lola have all filed for bankruptcy this year, and it appears that tuners are not immune to the tough times, either.
Word coming in from across the pond suggests that 9ff and SpeedArt - two of the biggest names in Porsche tuning - have filed for bankruptcy as well. 9ff is best known for the GT9, a radical hypercar barely based on the 911, while SpeedArt was once of the foremost tuners of Porsches.
Fortunately there are still plenty of tuners ready to take a wrench to your Elfen, but the reported demise of these two makes the market a little bit smaller and - for Porsche enthusiasts - maybe the world a little bit lonelier, too.
